For Skirting the Issue this year, I am once again trying to find ways to incorporate my kiddos to help. So, before school got out I cleaned out my sewing room and cut lots of pieces of fabric to 1 1/4 yards to make these whole cloth baby quilts. I also got about 12 pieces of batting and backings ready and prepped so that when I get the "I'm bored" statement...I say "let's go make some baby blankets!" This Whole Simple Whole Cloth Baby Quilt tutorial is one that any beginning sew-er can do and ... View the Post
Christmas in July 2019 Week #1: Using Fabric Scraps to Make Gift Wrap Ribbons
Welcome to Christmas in July! I have wanted to do a Christmas in July series FOREVER but I kept thinking can we do a Christmas in July series during Skirting the Issue? And last month, as I was thinking about this I thought...WHY NOT?!? (After all both are about giving.) So here we are and I couldn't be happier! Today we are starting with something I did last year for Christmas and am planning to do again this year...and that is.... Using my fabric scraps to create all the ... View the Post
Skirting the Issue 2019 is Here!!!
It's July which can only mean 1 thing...ok it can mean a lot of things...but here at Simple Simon and Company it means that it is time for Skirting the Issue! Skirting the Issue is an annual event that is near and dear to our hearts. It started from a desire to harness the goodness of the sewing community and help those that we knew needed some love....namely girls in foster care. (You can read more about our why's and the stories behind Skirting the Issue HERE and HERE.) Over the ... View the Post
Bow Tie Headband Pattern
While out shopping the other week, we came across these darling headbands. And although they were adorable, I wasn't up to the $24 dollar price tag that went with them. I told Hannie that I think we can make something similar that are still super cute. So, we came home and started on some proto-types to see if we could make some at home. We had about 4 different attempts but we finally found what we both were looking for! They are made from existing 1" angled headbands and they are so ... View the Post
Starting at Square One Quilt Pattern (sewn up in Shine Bright)
I love this quilt pattern. It is our Starting at Square One Quilt Pattern and a few months back I used it to make this toddler quilt using our Shine Bright fabric. The quilt itself finishes up at 50" by 50" which is the size that I love for lap quilts but is also the perfect size for my 7 year old to use for, what we call them at our house, a "couch quilt". However, this particular quilt was made for a brand new arrival and should make a great floor quilt for the sweet ... View the Post
Charming Churndash Quilt Pattern
We have another PDF pattern to release this month and this one is such a good one! As you know we love traditional quilt blocks and the Churndash is one of our favorites. We even wrote a whole podcast on the history of the Churndash quilt block itself that you can listen to HERE. So, naturally we needed a Churndash Quilt to go with it. I love the look of this block and you really can make it out of any traditional or modern fabrics and it will look great. I used a whole bunch of scraps ... View the Post
