I'm a product of the 80's and there's nothing I can do about it. It's in my genes. I like my hair big, my music loud, my jeans tight, my soda caffeinated, and my wreaths FAT and FLUFFY. That being said, here's the new spring wreath I made for my front door: It's big, it's fat, and, oh... it's bright. But I deserve some credit---it isn't spray painted neon pink (yet) and it isn't wearing shoulder pads. So there may be some hope for me..sometime...in the distant future.... Anyways, here are the ... Spring Fever: It’s Time to Think about the Easter Dress
A few weeks ago my mom made this dress for Gracie. It is made from a pattern from the 1950's and I love the Shirley Templeness of it. Looking at Gracie in this helped me decide that this is the year that I am going to make her Easter dress. I can do this. I won't be afraid. I have several patterns, all from the 50's and 60's, that I think would be awesome. BUT, I can't decide on the pattern (full and frilly or plain and ... View the Post
A Vintage Dishtowel Apron Skirt. And a tutorial.
I got this idea when I was cleaning out my sewing closet and found a bunch of vintage embroidered dish towels that I had found at an estate sale last summer. I was wondering what to do with them and realized how cute they would be on a skirt. I know that it's probably not a new skirt idea....but here is my result. This particular embroidered piece is actually a dresser scarf...so it has two embroidered ends. I took it to my local quilting store to match fabric and I love the way is turned ... View the Post
Spring Fever: Another Napkin Skirt
Ok. Right now I really am loving to make Gracie skirts out of vintage napkins. I made this one from just one napkin that I bought for $1 and some leftover polka dot fabric from another project. (I love the scalloped edges.) In my mind it was going to be a fun summer skirt....something to be worn with a white button down shirt...but as soon as I showed it to Gracie she said, "OH! Minnie Mouse clubhouse dress!" and it was all over. She is convinced that it is a Minnie Mouse outfit and ... View the Post
Another Vintage Dress.
I think that we need an acronym for Another Vintage Dress, 'cause it seems like that is the title of half my posts. But AVD just sounds like some very bad disease (it probaby is and I don't even know it) so we'll just go with Another Vintage Dress. Anyway, I took this 1972 pattern: and made this dress..... with this cute yolk and sleeves. I used some apples and pears fabric from the calico wall at Joann's when they were 30% off a month or so ago. I was loving the look of this ... View the Post
