So this is Gracie's Easter dress. In my mind it seemed like a normal choice for Easter....the baby chick yellow with the white and the chocolate bunny brown...but seeing everyone else's pink and pastel dresses I understand that I'm crazy...again. Oh well. I like it. Sure it's a little vintage cigarette girlish but I like it. Plus it was kind of an exciting project for me to work on. It is the first outfit I've completed where I drafted the pattern only from measurements---no tracing a ... View the Post
Ruffled Peplum Skirt. A Tutorial.
I have been dreaming about this skirt for a couple of months now. It is part of my thought process of "what to make for tweens" and better yet, it is also one of those incredibly easy skirts that I adore to make. I made a mock-up prototype skirt about a month ago, but didn't like how short the peplum ruffle part was, so I remade it this week with a longer ruffle and it is exactly what I had envisioned. I am giving you the measurements I used for a girls waist size 5/6 although the ... View the Post
Slashed 80’s Vest
Just when you thought I had finally exhausted my list of crazy projects to make from Dollar Store T-shirts (You know like the Hostess Cupcake Skirts...Cardigan Vests...Maternity Skirts...Love Skirts...and the list goes on ) I make another one...and it may be the craziest one yet. Here's the story---I was going through Grace's drawers and reorganizing her clothes when I came across THIS VEST that I made for her. She hadn't worn it in awhile and I wondered what I could do to make it new ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: Ambition Meet Priority
Last week I said that I would be continuing to work of Facet No. 2 (From the Art of Homemaking)Ambition. So I have been. At the beginning of the week I sat down and made a list of 33 things that I wanted to accomplish this week (besides the usual housekeeping, child rearing, sewing, self-preservation, and other various weekly obligatory items).I worked hard. I accomplished a lot. I WAS AMBITIOUS!But I didn't get to cross off everything on my list.Dang.No matter how hard I tried not everything ... View the Post
What has consumed my life this week…
I really try to stay ahead in blogging world...so most of the projects you see this week are really from last week. But not this week. I am so behind.I have been taking my time meticulously (because I am afraid I am going to make a dumb mistake) drafting, cutting and sewing a blouse for my pattern drafting class. I am using this gorgeous silk-cotton voile blend (I didn't even know such a glorious fabric existed) that I bought at Tissu Fabrics. And meticulous is the key word this ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday—Scarf Skirts and Sailor Shirts
Last spring I made Grace a lot of these skirts but I never posted anything about them. They are made out of scarfs from the thrift store...which makes them about $1.50 each. Grace wore this one today (I can't believe it still fits!) along with a sailor shirt that I picked up at the thrift store for $2.00. Add that to the $3.50 I spent on her Wal-Mart leggings and that brings her outfit to a grand total of $7.00. (And that is a price I can afford!) I need to go and look for some more of ...
