I like to dabble in a lot of different things---and painting has always been one of them. Before Simon was born I bought a little raw wood chair which sat in my basement until he was about 3 when I decided to paint it up for him. This is how it turned out: The quote along the top comes from the book "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery which I was rereading at the time. It is from one of my favorite sections of the book where the Little Prince is having a conversation with a fox ... View the Post
Challenge for the week:
I have given myself a challenge for this week....to finish what I have started. Because you see, I have a bin sitting on my sewing table of projects that are incomplete. And. IT. IS. DRIVING. ME. CRAZY.So, I need to do something about it. And this is the week to do it.First up on the list was finishing this little romper or jon-jon (what do you can these?). It was almost done. It seriously just need buttonholes, buttons and hemming. And it has been sitting in the bin for months. So, ... View the Post

$5 Friday—Happy Christma-Easter-Ween!
Oh my. What can you say about a project like this??? And how did my daughter (who usually looks more like this) end up looking like a bank robbing Easter bunny? Here's what happened. Yesterday Grace informed me that she wants to wear a bunny suit on Easter instead of her Easter Dress. So at the end of a long afternoon of me working on my taxes I sat down with her to make said bunny suit. We started (and ended) with the hat. I pulled out an old grey stocking cap, a broken bunny ear ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday…With Blue Satin Sashes
Yesterday Liz shared her darling Easter Dress (I am in serious love), and I am sharing Hannie's today (which is kind of old news around these parts---I went with simple). Her dress is made from a cotton-linen blend of fabric that was thrifted (a whole roll of 10 yards of lovely fabric for $5----I am thinking it was originally meant for drapery lining). The dress is made from The Vintage Holiday Dress Tutorial. I forgot to put her crinoline under it for the picture---so you'll have to picture it ... View the Post
Gracie’s Chocolate Chicken Easter Dress
So this is Gracie's Easter dress. In my mind it seemed like a normal choice for Easter....the baby chick yellow with the white and the chocolate bunny brown...but seeing everyone else's pink and pastel dresses I understand that I'm crazy...again. Oh well. I like it. Sure it's a little vintage cigarette girlish but I like it. Plus it was kind of an exciting project for me to work on. It is the first outfit I've completed where I drafted the pattern only from measurements---no tracing a ... View the Post
