So night before last the kids were snuggled into bed and my husband was doing some work so I decided to make myself a skirt to put into the flicker group over at Crafterhours skirt week. It seemed like a good idea and since I never sew for myself I was kind of excited. I went downstairs, rummaged through my vintage pattern pile, hoard, collection and found one that I thought would be fun for the summer. It's a McCall's Pattern from 1960 that I bought at Deseret Industries for 50 ... View the Post
Vintage Pocket Wrap Skirt.
Today's project was one that I cut out about a month ago...and finally finished today. It is from a 1968 vintage wrap skirt pattern that was a girls size 8. So, I did some math (super hard for me sometimes) and sized it down to a 5/6, and luckily it worked! (I love it when that happens). The main skirt is chambray and the pockets and wrap part (it essentially wraps in the back) are some vintage cotton that I found at an estate sale that I LOVE. I love that the skirt is a wrap-around ... View the Post
Ghosts of Blogging Past…..and Summer Projects
June and October are my 2 favorite months. Both of them seem so full of possibilities---October when the seasons change and the holidays are just beginning and June with the start of summer and all the fun waiting to be had... But, just so you know, I did do two things differently. First, I put in an invisible zipper on the side seam because I wanted it to be more of a fancy skirt. You can see the zipper peeking out by her hand on her hip in the ... View the Post
THe Art of Homemaking: Let Every Room Fulfill It’s Function
"Remember, a wonderful aid to orderliness is a function for every room!"-Daryl V. HooleSo this week I've been thinking about what the function of each room should be and then how to make them the most functional. For example:The room I spent the most time on this week was the family room. This is where we spend the bulk of our time. It's where I sew and cut patterns, where my husband relaxes on the couch, where Simon reads, where Gracie colors, and where Ruth plays on the rug. It is also where ... View the Post
