I am so excited for summer! There are lots of reasons for this but not one of the least of them being that summer means showing off little baby arms and chubby baby legs! (Oh my goodness do I ever love my babies in summer rompers!) A few weeks ago I pulled out some patterns I've been hanging onto from the 50's and sewed them on up for baby Ruth. They are plain and simple and I love them. But then I remembered some pictures I had seen with bibs that were buttoned onto these kinds of jumpers ... View the Post
A 3-Seam Caftan Tutorial.
We still have a lot to tell you about our whirlwind "Lucy and Ethel take on the LA Fashion District" trip (Liz shared part I yesterday) and I will be back with another round of that (including fabric pics) on Thursday....but in the meantime I have one of the easiest dresses on the planet to make---3 seams and NO hemming. Yes! Seriously, the perfect for summer. At the end of our pattern drafting class, both Liz and I got obsessed with caftans. She made the Endora top using the caftan ... View the Post
17 Hours, 2 Round Trip Plane Tickets, and over 100 Pounds of Fabric OR Lucy and Ethel go to California
So Friday morning at 4:50am Elizabeth and I were pulling out of my driveway on our way to the airport. For a long time now we've been wanting to take a trip to the LA fashion district and Friday was the day! Now neither of us enjoy flying but for this...we were willing to make an exception. On the way to the airport we were so nervous and so busy talking that we missed the exit to the airport which led to a chain of events worthy of an I Love Lucy Episode including Elizabeth talking the ... $5 Friday: Pom Pom Hairclips
Today's $5 Friday is an easy craft that you can do with girls of any age. Hannie was the yarn-wrapper, and I was the tie-er and gluer. And we had a fun time. On some we did regular old alligator clips. And on some we tied in hair elastics (with a dab of hot glue to keep them in there better). But someone is now convinced that the hair ties look much better as bracelets. And well, I think she might be right! Any fun weekend plans? ~Elizabeth ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday: The Skirt That Was Not Meant To Have Pockets
So night before last the kids were snuggled into bed and my husband was doing some work so I decided to make myself a skirt to put into the flicker group over at Crafterhours skirt week. It seemed like a good idea and since I never sew for myself I was kind of excited. I went downstairs, rummaged through my vintage pattern pile, hoard, collection and found one that I thought would be fun for the summer. It's a McCall's Pattern from 1960 that I bought at Deseret Industries for 50 ... View the Post
Vintage Pocket Wrap Skirt.
Today's project was one that I cut out about a month ago...and finally finished today. It is from a 1968 vintage wrap skirt pattern that was a girls size 8. So, I did some math (super hard for me sometimes) and sized it down to a 5/6, and luckily it worked! (I love it when that happens). The main skirt is chambray and the pockets and wrap part (it essentially wraps in the back) are some vintage cotton that I found at an estate sale that I LOVE. I love that the skirt is a wrap-around ... View the Post
