One of the other highlights of going to the Midwest this summer was getting to go shopping and lunching with the lovely Lindsay, aka The Cottage Home Mama. She is ever as lovely in person as she is on her blog and it was such a pleasure to shop, laugh, eat and chat. I was actually supposed to be somewhere and we just kept chatting and chatting and chatting that I didn't even realize the time had gone by so quickly and I was late for a family function. (Shhhhh....don't tell my family that ... View the Post
I’ll Blame it All on He-Man
Over the weekend I realized that I have never shared this dress.I made it as one of my final projects in the pattern drafting class that Elizabeth and I took winter semester.Back when I started sewing I was learning to make various quilt squares. (Which I enjoyed.) But it wasn't until I started sewing for Grace that I fell in love.I have so much fun sewing for and dressing up my Grace.(Sometimes I wonder if I'm making up for all that time during my childhood that I played He-Man and G.I. Another caftan.
So I made another caftan dress. This time in cotton, with neckhole bias facings, finished sleeves, a cute drawstring detail....but Houston, there's a problem. She HATES it. Yep. Totally HATES.I thought it would be so cool and comfortable for summer. Loose, flowy, and cool.....but nope. She has clearly stated that she is NEVER wearing it again. She only likes the knit one. {Which she has worn almost every other day.....she says it's better than a nightgown.}Fine. I guess I can't win in ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: Skirting the Issue
"If you can't feed 100 people then feed just one."Mother TeresaEveryday I look in the Skirting the Issue Flickr Group to see another skirt added here and a few more skirts added there. Then we will receive an email from some wonderful woman who has organized a sewing group and tells us about the plans they have in their area. Later in the day I'll stop at the post office to find that we have a package (like the one pictured above from our sweet friend Jessica) full of skirts from another ... View the Post
$5 Friday—Well, Hello Doily
A little while ago I found a pile of random stuff in a bin in the craft room. Among other things I found this skirt. I made it a long time ago (like in January of 2011). It was during my season of putting doilies on everything (place mats, bulletin boards, bags, whatever held still...) Last night I went back and found the original post. The pictures are funny and not so awesome...especially the plugs hanging out of the wall in the background. (You can go check it out HERE ...but I ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday. Vintage Trims.
I live for garage sale season in the summer. It is seriously one of the reasons that I love to go back to the Midwest for a vacation in the summer----for the garage sales, and for my family (of course!).I am seriously jealous of all you Mid-westerners who get to enjoy awesome garage sales all the time. You have it made. So, of course, while we were visiting family in Illinois for the summer, I had to do some garage-saling. And boy did I cram a lot of garage sales into two weekends (the last ...
