So as I mentioned a little while ago I've been into making my own iron on patches. I don't have any of those nifty machines that you just send an image over to and it cuts out some stuff. (In all honesty I don't even know how they work and haven't ever seen one.) I've just been making them the old fashioned way...draw a picture, trace it onto fabric, iron Heat-and-Bond onto the fabric, peel, stick, iron onto the desired location, and sew around the edges. Done. And I love them so much ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday. My Best Sewing Friend(s).
This post was first done for Sew Together's Best Friend Series......Hi! I am Elizabeth, one half of the sister-in-law duo that makes up Simple Simon & Co. We are two girls who love to going through life sewing, thrifting, discovering the art of homemaking and blogging about all of those adventures. When Maryanne and Caroline talked about this series, it took me a while to come up with what really my sewing best friend was.....a tool (I don't use a lot of fancy sewing tools), a person, a book? ... I Just Realized That I Can’t Be the Dos Equis Man Forever (and some other stuff)
Before I commence with the randomness I have 1 item of business that I need to take care of.I need to announce the winner of the Riley Blake fat quarter bundle. And that winner is....Sandy (who's favorite color is lime green). Ok. Now onto crazy talk.Another year of school has started. I didn't post about it. On purpose. It makes me too sad. My husband reminds me that when I used to teach school this was my favorite time of year...all the students coming back, redecorating a classroom, a ... View the Post
A Halloween Wreath.
I think I have decided that some people are scary-Halloween people---and some aren't. We are in the aren'ts category. I took our youngest who is 2 into a display store last week to get some grid-wall pegs and he started freaking out over all the life-sized witches and crows and bubbling cauldrons that were EVERYWHERE. I ended up carrying him on my shoulder with his head buried in my neck and every time he would peek out he would say...."Let's get out of here." I have to admit...they were ... View the Post
The Sonjia Scarf Tutorial
So late Thursday night I was watching Project Runway (I always watch it during it's second broadcast at 11:00pm when everyone is asleep and I can enjoy it...while eating nachos...and stretched out on the couch. Crazy? Maybe, but I've never claimed not to be.) Anyways, so I'm sitting there watching it and Sonjia (who I love) is wearing this totally awesome grey, knit scarf. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of Sonjia wearing the scarf but you can see it in this clip from the last ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: It’s not the tragedies…it’s the messes
I read this today. It says better than I can the thoughts that I've had floating around in my brain these past few days. It's from one of my favorite homemaking gurus: Sarah Ban Breathnach. "Whenever I am feeling overwhelmed by outside circumstances---worries about money, concern over a sick family member, or anxiety...instinctively I turn to homegrown rituals to restore my equilibrium. There is an immediate emotional and psychological pay off to getting our houses in order. We might not be ... View the Post
