It's about this time of year that I am up to my eyeballs in handmade projects...and loving every minute of it. (Really...I love to have an excuse to "have" to make something.) This year the majority of my gifts will have, at some point, come in contact with a sewing machine...but it hasn't always been this way... Take, for example, Yukon Cornelius: I painted him up for my husband like...oh...7 years ago. (Before I even owned a sewing machine.) I think the wooden guy was supposed to be ... View the Post
The Any Occasion Skirt Tutorial
So awhile ago I had this idea to make some sort of a skirt for Grace that she could wear for any holiday. I wanted it to be "festive" but not stuck being just for Christmas or Valentine's Day or whatever. (Although, let's face it. I like holiday specific clothing as well...I just posted those angel shirts for crying out loud.) Anyways...thinking one item that can be changed to fit different holidays...this is what I came up with: The Any Occasion Skirt Just a simple skirt with a bow ... View the Post
A Handmade Christmas: Visions of Sugar Plums
I promised you the holiday version of the Morton Salt Girl dress today and here it is. The only thing I did differently was to lengthen the skirt to make it knee-length and add a ribbon sash. Otherwise, it is the exact same dress.Purple was the requested color, so I obliged with a dark purple (plum) taffeta and a light purple satin for the lining and ribbon sash around the middle. And even more lucky for me, the day we did the photo shoot she had just returned from a day of "hair, make-up and ... View the Post
Color Blocked Bodice Tutorial
A little while ago we were over at icandy handmade sharing a tutorial for Jen and Autie's Basic Bodice Series. And since I really do like the bodice, and because I did make this dress for her to wear during the holidays I'm sharing the post and tutorial back here on our blog today. (And while I'm sharing this on the blog I'm working at home to finish up a holiday skirt that I am so excited about! If I hussle I'll have it completed and ready to go for Thursday. I really hope I get it ... View the Post
When it rains…..
I told you I was waiting to share Hannie's Halloween costume and I finally got the tutorial done for you today. Last year for Halloween she went as Audrey Hepburn, and this year she decided a long time ago that she wanted "to be someone old again." Which to her, meant different. She was adamant that she wanted to have a costume that no one else had. So, she and I brainstormed and this is what we came up with.... We took our inspiration from this image. A 60's mod dress with a ... View the Post
A Handmade Christmas: Isaac’s Christmas Outfit
I am busy getting some Christmas outfits made for the kids. First up is Isaac's. Well, I still have his button-front shirt to make....but I am considering it almost done. The cardigan is the Greenpoint Cardigan pattern from Hey June, which I am in love with on him. I think this is my third or fourth Greenpoint Cardi and I am not stopping anytime soon. I have now made them for all the kids (I will show you a chevron one soon). And Isaac's pants are part of Andrea's A Go To Christmas and were ... View the Post
