Simple Simon and Company

This last weekend we had such a low-key Saturday morning.  We had no place to get to, it had snowed (a lot) over night and it just seemed so peaceful.  We all stayed in our jammies until well after noon, and I got some good sewing time in (which is unusual for the mornings---I usually wait until nap time). Grace has long hair.  And it's always tangled.  It's best to keep her hair in a bun...which it is most days with a little bow (or bows) on the side. So the other day when we were at the Dollar Store and I saw these mini bows I thought that they would be perfect for Gracie's hair during the holidays.  And they are...and it's a 30 second project...which is also perfect for the holidays. I don't know about you, but I am desperately trying to finish up handmade gifts this week.  I gave myself the deadline that they have to be done by the time the kids are out of school--because then, I have told myself that kid-time is just more important than sewing. So every year my husband and I give all of our neighbors the exact same gift...ever year...same thing...year after year... a big old roll of wrapping paper. Seriously.  Every year. (Except for that year when I read that book about the history of salt and gave everyone a can of Morton's Salt along with a note about why salt is the most interesting thing ever...but that is another post for another time.) Last night Grace gave this scrappy handmade heart to her Grandma.  It was her birthday and Grace spent 3 afternoons working on this heart. Sure it's a little funky but it was made by a 4 year old. To make it I just drew a giant heart on a square canvas (purchased at Hobby Lobby) with Elmer's glue.  Then Grace placed scraps all along that glue trail to make the outline of the heart.  Next I smeared glue in sections inside the heart let Grace fill it up with fabric.  We continued this process ...
