A week ago today I was curled up in a ball, running a fever, hallucinating and barely able to take care of myself let alone my family. I felt sad and overwhelmed. Starting at about 3:00am on Thanksgiving morning until now we have had at least one sick person at our house constantly. We've had everything from influenza to ear infections. And poor baby Ruth she had pneumonia and then got croup on top of that! I was freaking out. Literally this past month everything has taken a back seat to ... View the Post
Vintage Santa Napkin Holder Tutorial
While helping my mom put up her Christmas decorations a month or so ago, I came across these vintage Santa napkin holders that we used to use as kids. Only two of the many we had survived the years, but I thought that this year it would be fun to re-create them with the kids for our Christmas Eve dinner with my parents. If you want to make some too, here is what you will need: *White felt *Pink or skin-colored felt *Googly eyes (but I kind of prefer the tiny black poms like on the ... View the Post
Do You See What I See?
So back HERE in October I got to try a new pair of glasses from Firmoo.com. It worked out perfectly because awhile ago Grace and Ruth destroyed my old pair and I really did need a new pair of glasses. (Plus I felt cool thinking I would be getting a new pair of glasses for free. It wasn't until later that I realized that they give new customers their first pair free. Anyways...) I'd been enjoying my glasses for several weeks when Firmoo.com contacted me again asking if I'd like to try a ... View the Post
A Handmade Christmas: A few thoughts.
(These were actually neighbor gifts from last year, I didn't even take a picture of this year's gift. Inside are the tiny blue sewing kits that you buy at the dollar store.) My deadline for sewing is today----ahhhh!!! And I can see the end in sight. I got the kids pajamas done (they aren't as fancy as last year's, but it's going to be okay), the teacher's gifts are done, neighbor gifts are handed out.....and I am ready for Christmas break to get here. The last thing on my to-do list is to ... View the Post
A Handmade Christmas: Reusable Christmas Bags
This post was originally done for Riley Blake's Design Team Wednesday, but you still have time to make some if you need to.... At Christmas each year we have a tradition that our kids can open one present on Christmas Eve, which is always a new, sparkling set of pajamas for Christmas morning pictures. It's a fun tradition and the kids love it....but it has always been a hassle finding those presents under the tree. So, I had an idea to make reusable Christmas bags that we can use ... View the Post
A Handmade Christmas: An Embroidery Sampler
This last weekend we had such a low-key Saturday morning. We had no place to get to, it had snowed (a lot) over night and it just seemed so peaceful. We all stayed in our jammies until well after noon, and I got some good sewing time in (which is unusual for the mornings---I usually wait until nap time). And after Friday's events I just felt like we all needed to be home. And together. I am a homebody normally, but this tragedy has thrown me for a loop. As soon as I heard the news on ...
