Ok, so when Elizabeth and I were planning out our ugly pattern party I scheduled myself to go first because I didn't think that I could wait any longer to share my very favorite "ugly" pattern.I bought it for a quarter (along with some other lovelies) in a strangers basement where Elizabeth and I ended up one evening. (Long story.) Anyways, when I saw this pattern I totally had to buy it. That was a few years ago and may have actually been what sparked the idea for this series because we've ... View the Post
“You Can’t Judge An Ugly Vintage Pattern By Its Cover” Party
Elizabeth and I both love vintage patterns. In fact, if we are using a pattern it is a rare occasion for us NOT to be using a vintage pattern. We just love them. Most of my early sewing was limited strictly to vintage patterns. I just think they are the best---the pieces, the instructions, the illustrations, the styles..... However, sometimes to see the potential waiting inside the envelope you have to look past the photo on the cover. Take this beauty for instance: That girl in the photo ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: Beautiful Things
"The most effective kind of education is that a child should play amongst lovely things."-PlatoSometimes as a mother I beat myself up. (I'm sure none of you ever do that, right?)I think am I doing this right, am I doing enough of that, am I giving them enough of this, and I should have done that and that and that better. These questions and doubts float around in my brain more than I'd like. But the other day Grace and I were "working" on the floor in our jammies while Ruth napped. I was ... View the Post
Success Tips for My Younger Self: Kaplan University Post

During my second year of teaching I discovered a night class that another university offered that I could attend and earn a degree in special education...and before I knew it I had finished the course and was off to ... The Kind of Post That We Aren’t So Good at Writing
Over on Project Run and Play, almost everyday, Elizabeth and I share the fabulousness of other bloggers. It's great. We could talk all day about others (and usually do)! But when it comes to talking about ourselves...we're not so good at it.Many (ok, almost all of you) have given us a hard time about not posting photos of ourselves on our blog. We post about our children, our sewing, our thoughts, but not photos of ourselves. Usually we tell people that's because we are like Lemony ... View the Post
A Dress and some thoughts.
I promise you that Liz and I will share our sewing adventures from over the weekend soonish (maybe tomorrow if we can get our thoughts together and our laundry done!) but today I wanted to share a dress that I finished in January but never photographed until yesterday.I drafted the shift dress pattern from Hannah's sloper and then added an exaggerated peter-pan collar which I am loving at the moment. After I made this dress I got on an exaggerated-collar kick---so there will be lots more to ... View the Post
