This was an unintended project. Yesterday after preschool I was wiped out and so were the kids. Simon was still at school and Grace and Ruth both fell asleep which means I suddenly found myself with some time alone. And what did I do with that time to myself? Catch up on laundry? Clean out my closet? Take a nap? No way. I made Grace the lace back t-shirt that I have been wanting to make her for weeks. (I love quiet sewing time.) Here's what I did: #1. I gathered my supplies. The Sonjia Scarf Tutorial
So late Thursday night I was watching Project Runway (I always watch it during it's second broadcast at 11:00pm when everyone is asleep and I can enjoy it...while eating nachos...and stretched out on the couch. Crazy? Maybe, but I've never claimed not to be.) Anyways, so I'm sitting there watching it and Sonjia (who I love) is wearing this totally awesome grey, knit scarf. Unfortunately, I couldn't find a picture of Sonjia wearing the scarf but you can see it in this clip from the last ... View the Post
Where a kid can be a kid.
I have been thinking lately about the art of homemaking and how it relates to family life. And I have come to the conclusion that I need to be more of a “fun mom.” Yes, I read to my children, teach them to do chores, cook with them, drive them everywhere…..but after vacation ended this summer I haven’t had a lot of time to play together with them. We have been on the go with various tennis and piano lessons, parties and other summer activities and in the last couple of weeks, time has slipped ... View the Post
Hair Therapy and $1,000 Sweepstakes
"Genius is of small use to a woman who does not know how to do her hair."-Edith WhartonI've always had a complicated relationship with my hair. I think that I've tried almost every hair style ever invented: bleached, dyed (brown, black, and purple), long to my waist, short to above my chin, permed, dreaded, braided, curled, waved, straight, crimped, and ratted. And I've got the pictures to prove it...but fortunately for you I'll save the gory details (and photos) for another time. Suffice it ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: If you are on the verge of hysterics….
I am having another one of those are-you-kidding-am-I-living-in-an-I-Love-Lucy-episode weekends.(Which actually happens more often than I'd like to admit.)I would explain whats been going on --like the lights, appliances, and electronic devices that have mysteriously been turning themselves on and off all morning (and freaking me out) or the almost 300 hair bows and 40 skirts I have strewn about the floor (more about that later) or the lady at Wal-Mart who lost her mind in the line behind me ...
