This is a shirt that I actually made for Gracie's spring Look Book...but Ruth has commandeered it and wears it as a crazy dress/tunic thingy ma bobber. Here's a photo of a sad Grace wearing her stolen shirt. I told her I'd make her another one after I buy some more fringe but that wasn't helping on picture day. Not one little bit. Anyway...this post isn't about our sibling shirt rivalry it's about how to add fringe to the hem of a shirt so let's get to it. The first thing you do is ... View the Post
A Zipper Pocket Tutorial.
Last week I made a travel tote that can sit in the car with snacks and supplies mostly because when I run out the house I literally forget everything. So I decided to make a bag---keep it in the car---and then it will be there when I need it. (Well, that is the plan......I feel like I am so forgetful sometimes as a mom....I don't know at what number child it happend but I really feel like I lost half my brain cells.) By the way, this tote is huge....like carry 5 beach towels and all the ... View the Post
$5 Friday: Pleated Shoulder Seams
What happens when Grace is cooped up in the house all day with her sick older brother and a grumpy baby sister---one of whom is watching her tv and the other is playing with all of her toys---and none of them are in a mood to share? She stomps around the house and declares that "today is the worst day ever!" Which is exactly what she did T minus 10 seconds before this picture was taken. Poor Grace...she is used to her daily routine and yesterday was not routine AT ALL but I promised her that ... View the Post
Sewing Tip: Pin the Button Hole
So the other day I was cleaning off my sewing table and ran across the instruction book that came with my sewing machine...and since I was tired...and not really into my work...I started thumbing through it and I ran across this little beauty of an idea that has changed my entire life. Ok...so it hasn't changed my entire life but it's a really terrific (yes terrific) idea and I've already used it like a million times. It's simple, easy, and genius---here's what it is: Pin the button ... View the Post
A Color-blocked Birthday Dress.
We have a girlie around these parts that is having a birthday this week. As well as a tea party with some very important people to celebrate the special occasion. So, of course a new dress was in order. I basically used my old stand-by vintage dress shape (here is the original tutorial) but didn't put on the sleeves or a collar. Just a simple, classic dress kicked up a notch with a bit of colorblocking. The only other difference to the original tutorial was adding an invisible zipper in ... View the Post
Sewing with Vintage Patterns
I think we are most excited about Vintage May because we LOVE vintage. Like, really love. Like, we have been hoarding collecting vintage patterns since we both began to seriously sew again (going on 4+ years) and our stashes are pretty hefty. Hefty enough that a new shelf had to be purchased in the last couple of months to hold them all. And vintage fabric.....well, don't even get us started on that addiction. It is a hoarding problem too! Ok, back to vintage patterns---that's why we are ... View the Post
