We shared this awhile ago over at Kojo for their Sewing for Me Series.....but in case you missed it here is our take on measurement taking. Hello. It's us, Elizabeth and liZ from over at Simple Simon and Company. Now, we know that you are probably thinking that we only make kids clothes. And you're right...kind of. While we are wild about children's clothing (sewing it, photographing it, styling it, designing it, embellishing it, whatever) what you may not know is that we are also ... View the Post
Flutter Sleeve Tutorial
Thanks everyone for your votes. It was a fun outfit to make....and it made me find an awesome discovery. You can turn a dress pattern around and make a coat out of it! Ok...here is the thing for the dress. You already have the tutorial! I made this dress from "The School Girl Jumper" that we made a couple of weeks ago. I did add some modifications which I will tell you about. Dress Modifications: 1. Make the bodice neckline higher. I did do the darts and fitted it several times ... View the Post
Making Binding/Bias Tape from Scraps—A Tutorial
A few weeks ago we had a chance to guest post over here: The post was an invitation to find ways to use up the scraps that we all stash away because we just know that one day they will come in handy. Somehow Susan must have known I am the queen of scrap fabric hoarding so this was a perfect opportunity for me to pull out the bins (yes, bins---not bin) of scraps and get to work.We had a lot of ideas and tried several wacky projects (none of which I will be posting) but the favorite was using our ... Some new shorts
Ok....I have to apologize first for the crappy pictures. I promise they are cuter in real life. These pictures were taken on a super dark day...hence the white balance being TOTALLY off, and the super photoshopping. Yikes, I am kind of embarassed. Learn from me, never take photos on a dark day (unless you have a post to finish for tomorrow and you are scrambling....then you will get something like the following. Argh.) As I said before, all of our boys needed shorts. So, I got busy for ... View the Post
$ 5 Friday– The “Love Boat” Dress…aka The Peasant Dress with Ruffle tutorial
....Pardon our dust today....our blog is a bit under construction.....hopefully we will be fully up and running soon! On to the dress: I have been thinking about a peasant dress with a ruffled collar for a long time now. And when I started googling a tutorial for one, I couldn't find one. So, in my crazy fashion, I made one up. And luckily this time it didn't have to go in "the-projects-of-doom-that-turned-out-horrifically" pile that is in my sewing cabinet (and is always pretty large). I ... View the Post
Pattern Remix. A pleated collar tutorial. (And you can make it for under $5)
Did you see us over at Me Sew Crazy yesterday and the "School Girl Dress?" Today is the tutorial for the pleated collar from that dress. One thing I love is classic styles...and this pleated collar is one of those classic styles that you can add to any dress to make it lovely. Here's how you do it. Step 1 The first thing that you are going to do it pleat your rectangle of fabric. I think it is much easier to do it this way and then cut your collar after. If you need a tutorial for pleating ...
