Today I get to start sharing Gracie's Spring Look Book. I really should start with my inspiration post but I'm too excited so I'm going to just jump right in and share my inspiration later...maybe on Wednesday. This is the first look that I made for Grace. We just registered her for kindergarten so there has been a lot of talk about school next year---including what "school girls" wear which is where the idea for this look came from. (She doesn't have to wear a uniform but still thinks ... View the Post
A Valentine Skirt.
Last week I made Hannie a skirt for Valentine's Day. I should have been working on a costume for a 5th grade wax museum project, but I just wanted to sew something fun. I started with The Vintagely Modern Skirt as the base. The only alteration I made to the original skirt was to make the waistband larger and added extra-heavy fusible interfacing to make it stand up well. (I cut the waistband piece 6.5 inches so the finished waistband is 3 inches tall.) I then added the heart pocket. I ... View the Post
Bow Pocket Tutorial.
I shared this tutorial a couple of weeks ago over at..... but today I am sharing it with you. There are two things right now that I am loving....bows and polka dots. So I combined my love of both to make a cute pocket on a back-to-school skirt for my brand new 2nd grader. The main fabric on the skirt is from Riley Blake's solids collection, Pepper and the bow pocket is Red dot from the Seaside Line. I am in LOVE with their stripes and polka dots.....they literally have dots in ... View the Post

Here's what what we're doing: We don't need to tell you that one of our favorite things to make are skirts, skirts, and more skirts. Skirts are the perfect project for ... View the Post
A Bubble Skirt Tutorial
Or maybe the title of this post should be "how the Vintagely Modern Skirt became a Bubble Skirt." For this skirt I took The Vintagely Modern Skirt tutorial and made it a bubble skirt (or you can use any fuller skirt pattern, for that matter). Here's what you need: *your skirt material (I used about 1 1/4 yards of Kona cotton in "Butter Yellow" for a girls size 6) *your skirt lining material (I used just about a half yard) *matching thread *button (or elastic if you want an ... The All You Need is Love Skirt
Last month I shared this skirt tutorial over at Somewhat Simple but thought I better put it up over here before Valentine's Day was over. (Although, if you are like me---you haven't really thought about Valentine's Day yet....) I'm calling this skirt the "All You Need is Love Skirt" but it could be called "The World's Easiest and Most Inexpensive DIY Valentine's skirt". (It's made out of a dollar store T-shirt and some scrap felt and took me less than an hour from start to finish.) Here's ... View the Post
