Earlier this month, this guy turned 9....and requested a Harry Potter Party. This is him opening his one wanted gift---a "real" Harry Potter wand. You have to know one thing about me, I don't do huge parties. I know some people do, they go all out and have every detail down and perfect and lovely. And they are awesome.Well here's my problem. All of my children's birthdays fall on the first week of the month they are born in. And I always think about their party a month or so before, and ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking—Spending Time With Our Boys
A few weeks ago I bought a book published in 1951 called "How Book of Cub Scouting". I'm not a scout leader nor do I have any boys in cub scouts (yet) but the book was old and kitchy and had some great old photos and illustrations. Then this week I opened it up and read the forward. Here is part of what is said: "Any father who wants to do something with his boy can find in this book ideas and suggestions. He and his boy will become real pals even if they do a few of the things suggested. With an ... View the Post
Target Building Instructions
Target Building Instructions: Yikes! I totally forgot that I was going to post this tutorial today! Earlier in the week I meant to take some photographs of the target and frame in action but then they were borrowed, and then they were taken camping and now the morning is slipping away so we'll have to make due with some older pictures I found from a few weeks ago so I can get this thing posted! Ok...so here is the target that I'm posting the instructions for: Ours sits on a three tiered ... View the Post
$5 Friday…Fun Activites for Our Boys of Summer
This summer we are short on funds (it seems we are always short on funds...but who isn't?). However, I really wanted to make sure that we had a super fun summer. So the day after school ended Simon (my little guy) and I sat down and made a 3 page list of ideas that sounded fun and cost next to nothing. Since then we've been busy crossing activities off of that list. Here are a few of the favorites thus far: #1. Jedi Bubble Training: Cost: $1 for the bubble wand (we already had the light ... Boys Week—More PVC Projects
It seems that this summer may be the summer of my love affair with PVC pipe. Every time I think of something I want to make it involves using more PVC pipe. Like this target: It's made from a simple PVC frame, leftover canvas from another project, 2 pieces of ribbon, and some paint. The entire project took less than and hour from start to finish. (If anyone is interested I can post a tutorial with all the parts and measurements.) This easy to make target is super fun...Simon (my little man) ... View the Post
Some new shorts
Ok....I have to apologize first for the crappy pictures. I promise they are cuter in real life. These pictures were taken on a super dark day...hence the white balance being TOTALLY off, and the super photoshopping. Yikes, I am kind of embarassed. Learn from me, never take photos on a dark day (unless you have a post to finish for tomorrow and you are scrambling....then you will get something like the following. Argh.) As I said before, all of our boys needed shorts. So, I got busy for ... View the Post
