Remember when the photo booth prop rage was going on? And everyone was putting mustache's and funny glasses on sticks? Well, in the middle of all that I kept thinking it would be cute to do some seasonal photo props on a stick to play with at family gatherings. When Halloween came around I started some really fun ones but then I never finished them...or photographed them...BUT the other day I had all the kids home with the flu and for fun (and to break up the boredom) we made some ... Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds Costume Tutorial
If you need a quick last minute costume this is the perfect one to make! I like funny and old vintage Halloween costumes. Last year, this sassy seven-year-old was Audrey Hepburn and this year....well, she hasn't yet decided on what her glorious costume will be. So, I got to take some liberties and made up a costume that I liked. (And we shall see what she actually chooses for the big day ;) I love this costume because it is a total throwback to the costumes of my childhood. ... View the Post
Because you can’t have too many tutus.
Liz and I are busily sewing our brains out to share our fall "look book" collections in a week or so. But, in the meantime, we do have a few projects that have been sitting on the back shelves. I am currently three outfits down and three to go, with bits and pieces in between like blind-stitch hemming (I don't know why but I dislike blind-stitch hemming, so I always leave it until the end, even with the nifty foot-- I am weird.) But I am totally stuck at finding a girls' navy blue skinny belt ... View the Post
$5 Friday—Rug Market Bag Tutorial
Over 2 years ago I made my first rug bag.. I was at the dollar store wandering around and I saw a pile of these rugs...and I liked them...and I wanted to do something with them besides throwing them on my floor. So I made this bag... ...and then another... ...and another... ...and even all this time later I still can't stop. (And I can't stop wearing those ugly pants either...my husband keeps trying to slip them into the donation pile but it's not happening!) Anyways, over the summer I made ... View the Post
Bow Pocket Tutorial.
I shared this tutorial a couple of weeks ago over at..... but today I am sharing it with you. There are two things right now that I am loving....bows and polka dots. So I combined my love of both to make a cute pocket on a back-to-school skirt for my brand new 2nd grader. The main fabric on the skirt is from Riley Blake's solids collection, Pepper and the bow pocket is Red dot from the Seaside Line. I am in LOVE with their stripes and polka dots.....they literally have dots in ... View the Post
Ruth’s Ruffled Bodice Tutorial
Last Friday I posted these dresses that I made for my girls. And then I had several emails about how I made the detail on the bodice of Ruth's dress. So today I'm going to share with you what I did. It was really easy and you can add this little ruffle piece to ANY bodice that have or like to use. To start with I cut 2 of the exact same bodice front pieces (the green polka dot fabric). ***Remember you can do this with any bodice of your choice from pretty much any pattern that you ...
