Hey! Today I am knee deep (actually it's more like up to my eyeballs) in preparing for some upcoming events: sewing for the fashion show at Riley Blake's Fabric Fest, putting things together for our class at The Sewing Summit, and a top secret project that Elizabeth and I are CRAZY excited about. (Ok, it's not top secret...but we aren't ready to spill the beans just yet....) So, while I'm outside cutting and sewing on the patio (and letting the kids enjoy one of their last days of summer ... $5 Friday—Simple Science Experiments
So for what seems like forever now Simon has been after me to let him start a club. A "Man Science Club". So this summer I finally let him do it. He and 5 buddies have been meeting every other week to conduct science experiments. Seeing how science isn't really my thing I wasn't sure how this was going to go.Fortunately it's been really, really fun. Here are a few of the things that we did our first week:We were talking about reactions...items that repel & items that attract... We started ... View the Post
A Ragged Messenger Bag Tutorial
Over the summer I've been working on a few projects that I haven't had a chance to share yet. Like this field journal and messenger bag that I made for Simon. The fabric came from a fat quarter bundle that we received in the mail from Coats and Clark. It is a sneak peak at a brand new line that will be released in the United States next month! The line is designed by Tim Holtz and is called Eclectic Elements. The line has a great turn of the century vibe and it reminds me of adventures, ... View the Post
Skirting the Issue: Car Caddy from Homemade by Jill
Another story.... As a youth and in college I used to visit and volunteer at a Women's Crisis Center and then later at a Drop-off Crisis Center for children. Usually my volunteer job was to go to the kid's room and play.....not a hard job....but well worth it to a teenager's soul. There we played games with the children, read them stories, rocked the babies and even once we threw them an "Unbirthday PArty" complete with balloons, cake, streamers and small presents. I can vividly in my mind's ... View the Post

A No-Sew Polar Fleece Blanket Tutorial
Ruth has had 2 scheduled trips to the hospital this year. Both times I was a nervous wreck. Both times her procedures were simple but I still cried both times when they took her away from me. And both times Ruth struggled with coming to from the anesthesia. It was rough...like night terror screaming for extended periods of time in the recovery room with 3 nurses helping us to hold her and keep her safe and breathing rough. The last time we were at the hospital they were prepared for us ... View the Post
