Last spring I made Grace a lot of these skirts but I never posted anything about them. They are made out of scarfs from the thrift store...which makes them about $1.50 each. Grace wore this one today (I can't believe it still fits!) along with a sailor shirt that I picked up at the thrift store for $2.00. Add that to the $3.50 I spent on her Wal-Mart leggings and that brings her outfit to a grand total of $7.00. (And that is a price I can afford!) I need to go and look for some more of ... A Nautical Dress {made from the thrift store}
I literally squealed inside when I found this skirt below at the thrift store. It was love at first hanger-pull, because I have been on the lookout for a pleated 80's rayon goodness skirt for a while now.At first I wanted the skirt all.to.myself. (Ok. Being honest, I still do.) I envisioned cutting off the top....cinching it in a bit and making a knee-length nautical skirt for me. But when I brought her home and realized that the pleated part would be well above my knees (darn) I decided it ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday—Spools
My mom found these awesome wooden spools at a garage sale and brought them to me. Can I tell you how much I adore her?I am in love with them. The colors, the spools....and really everything about them. I kept pressing her for what more there was at the garage sale that she could have bought----sewing or notions-wise. But these were it.Nonetheless an amazing find. Especially for the $4 she paid for them. Thanks mom!Any amazing sewing deals in your thrifting excursions lately?I tried to go ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday—A Super Silly Simplicity Pattern
Yesterday I finally got around to sewing one of the first vintage patterns I ever purchased. It is a Simplicity pattern #6039 and was printed in 1965. I bought it a thrift store a few years ago for a quarter.The front cover (which is pretty beat up) claims it is "easy-cut easy-sew", only has "3 main pattern pieces" and is suitable to be worn for "play clothes".And since I've been a little under the weather this week I thought an easy project sounded like just what the doctor ordered...and I ... Thrifted Thursday– A Special Keepsake
I have been thinking a lot lately about why I like to sew. And although I think there are many reasons, one in particular comes to mind. My sister and I were talking one day a year or so ago and she said that she had read somewhere that a woman should do something every day that can't be undone. Because clean houses get messy; clean dishes inevitably get dirty and well, the mountain of laundry (especially this week) never seems to end. So while I have learned to like those tasks (a post for ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday—-A White Eyelet Dress (with some modifications)
Months ago I bought Grace an old stained dress for $2 at at local thrift store. I brought it home, gave it a serious bleach bath, and hung it in the closet where it stayed until yesterday when I pulled it out and continued to freshen it up a bit. This is what we ended up with. Luckily the dress was darling to begin with so the changes I made were minor. I started by embroidering the word "Beloved" on her sleeve. Embroidering was easy (but that may be because I don't know what I'm doing). All ... View the Post
