This post was first done for Sew Together's Best Friend Series......Hi! I am Elizabeth, one half of the sister-in-law duo that makes up Simple Simon & Co. We are two girls who love to going through life sewing, thrifting, discovering the art of homemaking and blogging about all of those adventures. When Maryanne and Caroline talked about this series, it took me a while to come up with what really my sewing best friend was.....a tool (I don't use a lot of fancy sewing tools), a person, a book? ... Thrifted Thursday. A Vintage Yo-Yo Quilt.
I found this spectacular quilt at at thrift store this summer and was so immediately drawn to it. It is so beautiful and just about everything I love wrapped into one fabric package. Vintage fabrics, simple repetitive-style, great colors, and textural appeal--everything I love about sewing--this baby has got it all.The yo-yos are perfectly sewn together. And the fabrics are just. plain. awesome. It is to date my favorite find ever.P.S. Thrifted Thursday: Ultimate Sadness
Maybe "ultimate sadness" is a little dramatic. Perhaps. But this is a pretty bad craft fail. Back in the winter when Elizabeth and I were taking that pattern drafting course I got on this kick where I wanted to make all these knit, Units style pieces for Grace. And for the most part I really like how they turned out. But then I got too confident...and ended up with this dress. Kooky, shapeless, sad. It was supposed to be a simple dress with dolman like sleeves...but then I decided to use ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday. A Movie Projector.
I found this little treasure at a yard sale a couple of weeks ago. Thrifted Thursday. Vintage Trims.

It is seriously one of the reasons that I love to go back to the Midwest for a vacation in the summer----for the garage sales, and for my family (of course!).I am seriously jealous of all you Mid-westerners who get to enjoy awesome garage sales all the time. You have it made. So, of course, while we were visiting family in Illinois for the summer, I had to do some garage-saling. And boy did I cram a lot of garage sales into two weekends (the last ... Thrifted Thursday: The Skirt That Was Not Meant To Have Pockets
So night before last the kids were snuggled into bed and my husband was doing some work so I decided to make myself a skirt to put into the flicker group over at Crafterhours skirt week. It seemed like a good idea and since I never sew for myself I was kind of excited. I went downstairs, rummaged through my vintage pattern pile, hoard, collection and found one that I thought would be fun for the summer. It's a McCall's Pattern from 1960 that I bought at Deseret Industries for 50 ... View the Post
