I have just gotten back from an over a month long excursion. But, luckily I worked my tail off in June and got most of the posts up before I left....so you probably didn't even know I was gone. Did you? (Ok I did a couple of guest posts while I was there....)Sneaky I tell you......but I couldn't very well let the scaries know that my house was empty. That's another thing you should know about me....paranoia.Here's where I was.My great-grandparents bought a small fishing cottage on a small ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking—A Fastly Fleeting Summer Vacation
"Live in each season as it passes; breathe the air, drink the drink, taste the fruit, and resign yourself to the influences of each."---Henry David ThoreauToday I realized that our summer vacation was half way over. And I wanted to cry. (I doubt I'll ever really grow up.)Have they breathed the air? Tasted the drink? And felt the influence of summer?I hope so, and if not I still have the entire second half of our vacation waiting for us to slurp more snow cones, make homemade ice cream, sleep ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking—Spending Time With Our Boys
A few weeks ago I bought a book published in 1951 called "How Book of Cub Scouting". I'm not a scout leader nor do I have any boys in cub scouts (yet) but the book was old and kitchy and had some great old photos and illustrations. Then this week I opened it up and read the forward. He and his boy will become real pals even if they do a few of the things suggested. With an ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: The Last Day of School
Today was Simon's last day of kindergarten. I will resist the urge to tell you all how much I love him and how much my heart aches as he grows wondering when he'll stop holding my hand, singing me songs, telling me stories, and asking me "what if"....and knowing that the time is coming sooner than I'd like. I won't tell you how I sneak into his room every night after he falls asleep to steal just one more kiss and whisper in his ear how much I love him. And I'll spare you the details of my ... Happy Mother’s Day
Way back in February I was out thrift store hopping with Elizabeth when I ran across an entire set of these dishes! I couldn't believe my luck. Not only are they beautiful, and it was a complete set, but my mom collects them. I snatched them up at once. And yesterday I gave them to my mom for Mother's Day (minus the cupcakes which were devoured soon after this photos was taken by a couple of little girls I know.....) I love my mom. I love her mom. And I love her mom's mom whom I'm named after ... View the Post
On Being a Homemaker and the Art of Homemaking Revival
Awhile back I started a little homemaking experiment. And then I started posting about it on this blog. But then I started posting other things and the homemaking posts disappeared until Jessica from Sew Home Grown contacted me. She gave me the opportunity to write my feelings about homemaking on her blog. That post (which is pasted in below) reminded me how much I loved and needed my experiment. So now, every Saturday there will be a post about our adventures in the art homemaking or some sage ... View the Post
