“Nobody starts out a perfect quilter.” ― Sandra Dallas When my oldest was a baby and I had quit my teaching job, I needed something to do. Then one Sunday I saw a beautiful baby quilt at church that one of the older ladies in my neighborhood had made, so I asked her to show me how to make one. It was my first taste of sewing again and my very first taste of quilting.... I have done a few simple strip-quilts over the years, but found myself more drawn to sewing apparel. But late last ... A Dress and some thoughts.
I promise you that Liz and I will share our sewing adventures from over the weekend soonish (maybe tomorrow if we can get our thoughts together and our laundry done!) but today I wanted to share a dress that I finished in January but never photographed until yesterday.I drafted the shift dress pattern from Hannah's sloper and then added an exaggerated peter-pan collar which I am loving at the moment. After I made this dress I got on an exaggerated-collar kick---so there will be lots more to ... View the Post
Helpful Hints from a Mid-Century Sewing Club.
This last summer I was gifted a package with a few sewing items, some fabric and a small envelope full of sewing patterns and articles from one of my mom's neighbors. SCORE!!! I wish there were more, but I will ... View the Post
Holidays and Chain Reactions

"How do you find the time to sew?"It's a question that Liz and I get asked in our inbox a lot. And sometimes (ok, most of the time) I don't have a great answer for people. But over the last couple of weeks, I have been thinking about this question again (a kind readers asked for some help recently).....and I realized maybe we do have a few answers or tricks or secrets or just maybe something that may spark a helpful idea. So, over the next little while, Liz and I are going to be sharing some ... An Inscription and My Book List
Awhile back I was out of town visiting my brother who happens to live nearby to my most favorite thrift store ever. And because he loves me he consented to take me and my three kids over to prowl the store for awhile---he even walked the kids around the store and kept them entertained so I could rummage through all the patterns and smelly fabric. (Ah! The scent of moth bally polyester!!!) Anyways when we went to leave he and Simon had a purchase to make---a big, thick, old book called "The ... View the Post
