(The dishes the morning after a baby shower. Note here that I didn't take one picture at the shower---shameful---but I did take a picture of the dishes a day later ;) Liz is usually our resident expert of homemaking around here, but when I posted this post about sewing, I said I'd later share some thoughts about how I have learned (and continue to learn) about overcoming the mundane tasks of running a house and raising kids. But let's face some facts here. My house doesn't always ... View the Post
Life Lessons From the Sewing Machine
This dress was one of my Christmas presents this year....and it truly was one of my favorite gifts. It was a dress my mom wore in the late 50's as a junior bridesmaid. And since I am the sewer in the family (lucky me) she gave it to me. Sorry, if it looks a bit big on the dress form, it is. The dress is about a girls size 12 or so and it's pinned on a dress form that is a girls' size 6.My mom got this dress (and she even remembers that it cost around $40---a ton of money) as part of a bridal ... HELP ME!!!
This is a shameless call for help. I'm having a problem with my laundry and I'm wondering...All of my husband's (and Simon's) shirts keep coming out of the washing machine like this. All their collars look like giant vampire fangs after a feed.(And I don't even like vampire's...but don't get me started on that.)Here are the facts:The white shirts go into the machine white. The shirts come out with the collar tips (and only the collar tips) coming out looking like they've been burned. What is this ... The Art of Homemaking: Week 2
This week I was still working on Ms. Hoole's first "A"---attitude. And since Ms. Hoole says, "Attitude begins with gratitude." being grateful was the order of the week. This week was busy. We had so many different things going on. One night this week my husband was gone working late. It had been a particularly long and stressful day. I was holding a fussy baby Ruth while returning some phone calls and trying to finish up some housework before getting the kids in bed. I was exhausted and ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking Experiment—Week 1: Attitude
"Attitude is a little thing that makes a big difference."---Winston ChurchillMonday I restarted my "Art of Homemaking Experiment". So this week I worked on chapter 1 which is in entitled "Facet No.1 The Two A's".However, since I'm making a real go at this I decided to be realistic and tackled only the first of the "A's" which is attitude. (The other "A" is appearance...and since I'm sitting here writing in the mismatched pajamas that I've worn all day it was probably a safe decision.)The book ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking Experiment 2012
Almost a year and a half ago I started an experiment that I wasn't able to finish....but I CAN'T LIVE with unfinished business.I need closure. So this week I began my experiment again. And this time I'll do it right...and I will complete it.An experiment is "a test or trial undertaken to discover or demonstrate something".My experiment is based on the book "The Art of Homemaking" written in 1962 by Daryl Hoole.(and just so you know Daryl is a woman)How I found this book, why I bought it, and how I ...
