My oldest (Simon) turns 10 this week. A decade has gone by in the blink of an eye. And I don't want to blink again because when I open my eyes another decade will have passed and my baby boy will have become a man. Our children are only children for such a short amount of time....it very much makes my heart ache to think about it...how will I ever let them grow up? As Simon's birthday approached this year my husband and I did a lot of talking. We really wanted to make his birthday ... View the Post
My Family is My Strength…
This isn't the post that I had planned for today...I had planned a sewing project...but plans changed...this week has been a whirlwind. Starting with last Tuesday I've run Simon's Boy Scout den meeting, gone to back to school night, held a meeting with the principal, been to the doctors office twice, attended a business meeting, had an interview for the national nightly news here in my family room, gone to a family reunion, taken Ruth to her first day of preschool, run a half marathon, and ... The Art of Homemaking….on liking what you do.

I felt like all I did all day long was clean faces, clean bums, clean clothes, clean kitchens and try to take a shower once in awhile throughout the process. And after awhile I started loathing the everyday work of ... View the Post
Simple Watermelon Sorbet Recipe
Today we are joining the Wayfair Homemaker's Team and sharing a super simple watermelon sorbet recipe. It's one of my absolute favorite desserts in the summer especially for entertaining because people think it took forever and you DON'T have to have an icecream maker to make it. Just 3 ingredients and a blender and you have the most delicious summer dessert (or snack). I am also sharing the story of how this sorbet came to be---and reminiscing about my days in the Algarve in Portugal. (I ... View the Post
The Art of Homemaking: Stand Very Still
This isn't what I had planned to post for today...in fact, I had something else written about our Skirting the Issue Sewing night...but I keep thinking about something that happened over the weekend and I think maybe I should share that instead.... Last weekend I took my children to a busy place...and I was tired and hungry and just wanted to be back home. But there I needed to wait for awhile. There was no place to sit but I didn't want my three kids running around so I found a corner and we ... View the Post
