(some new fabric I bought this weekend to start a new quilt) Why do you sew? It's a question I get asked often in my personal and blog life...and one that I don't always know how to answer. I actually got asked that very thing last week and I stammered something out, but I am not sure it was the right answer. I often answer that it's my something that can't be undone everyday (which I wrote a post about HERE) but I think that there are lots of deeper reasons that I choose to sew. And ... View the Post
Sewing a skirt.
Things have been busy around here lately. I actually have a whole two hours to myself in the afternoons (while everyone is at school) and I have been trying to use that time to my advantage to sew. I have sewn up curtains for three bedrooms, been making Halloween costumes, and working on other sewing projects for the house! I will share soon.....but most are going to be "another boring curtain picture" so be forewarned ;) But after school we have had some sewing lessons going on...and a ... View the Post
A Fall Swing Coat
First up on the fall sewing list was to finish a fall swing coat that I actually started last year. I sewed up the jacket and the lining at the end of last summer, but then when I tried them on to fit the length realized that they were both WAYYYY too big and put them away to try again this year. Maybe it's the fact that I procrastinate because somehow I am wishing that summer would stay forever.....I miss the carefree summer days already. So, at 11 pm the night before school started I was finishing up the hem of the dress...and had it pressed and hung up just in the nick of time for the next morning. ... View the Post
Why I Sew
A little while ago RaeAnna invited us to take part in a series that poses the question "Why do you sew?". What a great question! What a fun series! But I'm not sure I have a fun answer.... You've all heard my story about crying the Christmas my mom gave my first sewing machine (how could she give me something so blatantly domestic?!?)....and the time I got kicked out of my junior high Home Ec. class for messing with peoples foot pedals (hilarious!)....and that time I got a cat stuck on my ... Maxi Skirt Round Up
It's knit skirt season!!!! WAHOOO! And one of the best kinds of knit skirts---the maxi skirt. So, we have put together a Maxi skirt round up of some of our absolute favorite maxi skirt tutorials. All of which are different (drop waist, pocket, full, pencil) so there are choices to find for every body shape and every age! We do love our maxi skirts and often joke with each other that they have become the new "momiform" all year round! They are comfy and are also a quick, easy sew that ... View the Post
