This coat is actually one of my favorite pieces that I made for the Lookbook this season. The pictures don't do it justice (it's a bit hard to photograph navy blue on a rainy day) but trust me when I say that it is DARLING in real life. I decided in the beginning that a color-blocked coat as part of the looks to mix and match for the colder weather which tends to suddenly hit.It is made from navy blue gabardine (which I used a coupon for) and winter white gabardine at the bottom for the bit ... A New Pattern, A Sincere Thank You, and a Giveaway
A New Pattern:Our friend Andrea from over at The Train to Crazy will be starting a blog tour in July to show off her new "Go-To Dress" pattern for girls of all sizes and we were lucky enough to get a sneak peak at the pattern! I made Grace the knee length version with the flutter sleeves...she loved it...and since I made it with silky, stretchy vintage fabric she thinks it is a "dancing dress" (hence the leg warmers). And while I'm glad she is happy with it, when we took the pictures of it she ... Whimsy Couture Pattern Review and Giveaway!
This week I got to review the Whimsy Couture Pillowcase Romper Pattern.I downloaded the pattern, printed out the pieces, and in no time flat Grace had a brand new outfit.(This romper is a quick and easy sew that I think has darling results.) Whimsy Couture chooses fun cotton prints for all their patterns but for Gracie's romper I really wanted to use some silky polyester paisley goodness from my vintage stash that has been waiting for just the right project. I think this it was the perfect ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday: The Skirt That Was Not Meant To Have Pockets
So night before last the kids were snuggled into bed and my husband was doing some work so I decided to make myself a skirt to put into the flicker group over at Crafterhours skirt week. It seemed like a good idea and since I never sew for myself I was kind of excited. I went downstairs, rummaged through my vintage pattern pile, hoard, collection and found one that I thought would be fun for the summer. It's a McCall's Pattern from 1960 that I bought at Deseret Industries for 50 ... View the Post
The Unintended Girl Scout Cookie Dress
Early last spring I bought this green fabric while on vacation and as soon as I came home I cut out this dress. But then I forgot all about it until this week when I was going through my unfinished project bin. Luckily the pattern I used (a 1965 Simplicity Pattern #5948) was a size 3 and will still work for Grace this spring. However when I started sewing it up I decided to change a few things---like the sleeves, tie, bias tape, etc.I sewed it up in a hurry during my girls nap time and when ... View the Post
Thrifted Thursday—A Super Silly Simplicity Pattern
Yesterday I finally got around to sewing one of the first vintage patterns I ever purchased. It is a Simplicity pattern #6039 and was printed in 1965. I bought it a thrift store a few years ago for a quarter. The front cover (which is pretty beat up) claims it is "easy-cut easy-sew", only has "3 main pattern pieces" and is suitable to be worn for "play clothes".And since I've been a little under the weather this week I thought an easy project sounded like just what the doctor ordered...and I ...
