One of the projects I did for Project Run and Play last year was a pair of "Audrey Hepburn" pants to go with this outfit. It was the most-worn pair of pants in Hannie's drawer, so the one thing I knew that had to be in the collection were another pair. These are made out of stretch denim (the same as the pencil skirt) that I got at FIDM in LA. They are basically a straight-legged pant with a waistband and side seam zipper. Last year's version I traced from a pair of leggings. This year ... View the Post
Lookbook: A Holiday Dress
I was in love with the this fabric the moment I saw on the clearance table. ( I almost felt like it was a splurge at $8 dollars a yard after all my super cheap finds.) It is a lilac suiting fabric, but it has a bit of a shine to it which is so pretty in real life. I used almost 3 yards of it for the dress. The bodice was drafted with a ballet neckline and front and back darts and elbow-length sleeves. I did line the bodice, but looking back it probably didn't need to be (which would have cut ... View the Post
Lookbook: A New Coat on the Block.
This coat is actually one of my favorite pieces that I made for the Lookbook this season. The pictures don't do it justice (it's a bit hard to photograph navy blue on a rainy day) but trust me when I say that it is DARLING in real life. I decided in the beginning that a color-blocked coat as part of the looks to mix and match for the colder weather which tends to suddenly hit.It is made from navy blue gabardine (which I used a coupon for) and winter white gabardine at the bottom for the bit ... Lookbook: Skinny Jeans, Cropped Shirt and a Cardi
This outfit is actually the favorite in the bunch. It has already been worn to school with a report that she and her friends loved her heart shirt...so I need to wash it quick so she can wear it tomorrow. (Girls at 7 love hearts, but I think I am 7 too...because I think it was my favorite spur-of-the-moment piece too.) I knew from the beginning that I wanted a cropped shirt. You see there was this cropped white shirt in a "Gidget" movie that I have been dreaming about and wanted to make. I ... View the Post
Lookbook: The School Girl
Today's "School Girl" look is a Peter Pan collared blouse (you knew there had to be at least one peter pan collar ;) and a stretch denim A-line skirt.First up is the skirt. Since my daughter is getting a bit older, I made a simple A-line skirt with front and back darts and a back zipper. The stretch denim is from LA at FIDM and it was $3 a yard (I bought 5 yards). I used less than 1/2 yard because it was 60 inches wide, so I still have a TON of stretch denim leftover which is great news.I did ... View the Post
Lookbook: Winter White Dress
The first look is one of two dresses that I put into the collection. This particular one is Hannie's favorite. It is an A-line dress make out of winter white gabardine that is fully lined. The front lace is from a vintage table runner that I have had in my stash awhile, waiting for the right dress and it finally found a home.I drafted the pattern for the dress but I do have an alternative in paper pattern form if you are looking for a similar look. You will need to make the sides a bit more ... View the Post
