This project is in no way new or innovative....but made a great afternoon of fun (and lots of yarn confetti on the floor!).The kids and I made a pom pom garland from leftover cotton yarn to add to our family room window and give a little color for Spring. They wound the yarn (50 times around the cardboard that bias tape comes on--the short side), I tied the middles, and then they gave them all haircuts--which made for some very innovative-looking poms. But it was just the spot of color we ... Craft Stick Puppets—Perfect for Something On a Stick Day
Did you know that tomorrow is "Something On A Stick Day"? Well, it is. And I'm not making it up either....Like all those other times that I mentioned here. So in honor of this special day we made these little people for a post dinner performance: We actually made a couple of sets. These guys are for Simon. But we made some for Gracie as well. (As you can probably guess she picked some princesses but then she also wanted a Little Red Riding Hood set.) Painting these puppets was a ... View the Post
A White Robe….vintage style
I had this great vintage pattern for a little robe and nightgown set or "peignoir" as the 1950's pattern called it. So, I cut them out and began to sew. But, unlike most vintage patterns I find.....this pattern was totally off. When I went to sew the yokes on the sleeves/ bodices, it didn't fit. And not just by a little bit. By a huge gaping hole. At first I thought it was me, that I had cut something wrong, or gathered something wrong. So, I checked the pattern again and again. This ... View the Post
$5 Friday—Pshhhh—I don’t even know what to call this—
Here's the story....the other night I was chopping up some T-shirts for a project when all I had left over was the cropped top of a grey one.Grace was working on a project next to me.She thought the shirt was funny. One thing led to another and now she is wearing it like some crazy Flashdance fanatic.Yes...I'm letting her keep and wear it. Yes it is in fact just a t-shirt that has been hacked off at the armpits. The only other thing I did was sew in a casing for some elastic around the arms ... View the Post
A Bubble Skirt Tutorial
Or maybe the title of this post should be "how the Vintagely Modern Skirt became a Bubble Skirt." For this skirt I took The Vintagely Modern Skirt tutorial and made it a bubble skirt (or you can use any fuller skirt pattern, for that matter). Here's what you need: *your skirt material (I used about 1 1/4 yards of Kona cotton in "Butter Yellow" for a girls size 6) *your skirt lining material (I used just about a half yard) *matching thread *button (or elastic if you want an ... Little Lady Lace Suspenders
Ever since I made Simon's suspenders I've been dying to make Grace a pair as well. So last month I finally got around to it and I made her some ruffled ribbon suspenders. The only problem was that before I was even finished with them I knew that I would have to make another pair....out of ruffled lace. I actually think I like them even better than the ruffled ribbon ones which I kind of love. And they are easy to make--you just follow the exact same steps except use lace instead of ribbon ...
