A super easy and inexpensive way to add interest to any skirt or dress is to add trim. When I buy trim for Gracie's skirts I always buy 1 and 1/2 yards. (This gives me enough to put around a full skirt and have a little left over just in case :) This particular trim I bought at Jo-Ann's and after using a coupon it cost right around $2. Not too bad. And I loooooove it. But if you don't love the southwestern flavor as mush as I do there are laces, and ribbons, and sequence and a million ... View the Post
Ugly Pattern #1—A Tip Toe Through The Tulips
Ok, so when Elizabeth and I were planning out our ugly pattern party I scheduled myself to go first because I didn't think that I could wait any longer to share my very favorite "ugly" pattern.I bought it for a quarter (along with some other lovelies) in a strangers basement where Elizabeth and I ended up one evening. (Long story.) Anyways, when I saw this pattern I totally had to buy it. That was a few years ago and may have actually been what sparked the idea for this series because we've ... View the Post
Elastic Waistband Shirt Tutorial
This is a shirt that I was messing around with awhile back but never finished. At the time I was looking at a lot of 80's style, over sized, off the shoulder seamed shirts. I finished off the top but never put a hem on it. I was thinking some kind of high low or asymmetrical kind of look might work but nothing really excited me so I didn't do anything...for a long time....like 6 months...but I finally finished it up yesterday by putting an elastic waistband around the bottom of it. And ... View the Post
$5 Friday: The Daddy Daughter Dress OR The Stolen Tie Tutorial
This is a dress that has been on my mind for a long time now and yesterday I decided to just sit down and put it together. I really like the idea of mixing different fabrics, textures, and patterns in a simple design. And awhile ago I was looking at one of my husbands ties and thinking how cool that tie material would be on a dress. Later I was looking at the shape of the tie and decided that shape would even be cool on a dress and so the idea for the "Daddy Daughter Dress" was born and ... View the Post
A Blessing Dress.
My niece was blessed this last weekend, and unfortunately I couldn't be there. We had two other trips planned for February and we just couldn't swing another one in there, so I called my sister (my twin) and asked if I could make baby Sarah Jane's blessing dress. I was hoping it will help me feel like I was there in spirit.... So, at the beginning of last week I set out the make the dress. I was actually afraid to start the dress too early because I was worried it would be too small by the ... View the Post
A Valentine Skirt.
Last week I made Hannie a skirt for Valentine's Day. I should have been working on a costume for a 5th grade wax museum project, but I just wanted to sew something fun. I started with The Vintagely Modern Skirt as the base. The only alteration I made to the original skirt was to make the waistband larger and added extra-heavy fusible interfacing to make it stand up well. (I cut the waistband piece 6.5 inches so the finished waistband is 3 inches tall.) I then added the heart pocket. I ... View the Post
