NOTE: This post is now an APP that is available for purchase for 99 cents and will send you a different question everyday all year round that you can ask your teen. You can find the App HERE. On Wednesday I posted 25 ways to ask your kids "How was school today?" without asking them "How was school today?" and the questions came from a list that I made to ask my own children who are in elementary school. But all of those questions are geared toward elementary school aged ... View the Post
25 Ways To Ask Your Kids “So how was school today?” Without Asking them “So how was school today?”
This year Simon is in 4th grade and Grace is in 1st grade and I find myself asking them every day after school, "So how was school today?". And everyday I get an answer like "fine" or "good" which doesn't tell me a whole lot. AND I WANT TO KNOW A WHOLE LOT!!!! Or at get at least a full sentence. So the other night I sat down and made a list of more engaging questions to ask about school. They aren't perfect...but I do get at least complete sentences...and some have lead to interesting ... This is the story of my Golden Blinged Sewing Machine and how I fell in love with sewing.
This is my first sewing machine: Alright...so it wasn't a golden blinged sewing machine when I got it...but it is now. Here's the story: Years ago (and I mean almost 2 decades ago) when I was a newlywed my mom bought me a sewing machine (this sewing my machine as a matter of fact) for Christmas. And I HATED it. On My Mind…(Why I Sew)
For the past few weeks I've been thinking a lot about why I do what I do...specifically, why I sew. I'm not sure what's caused this sudden siege of introspection. But over the past few ... View the Post
Using Polka Dots for Embroidery Design Mapping
Today I am sharing three skirts...all of which were started OVER A YEAR AGO...and just recently were finished! I've enjoyed embroidering on clothing forever (like on these baby undershirts and this dress) but a long while back I started thinking about how fun it would be to embroider on polka dot fabric and use the dots as a template or map for where the embroidering should go. So back when the idea was fresh in my mind I cut out these skirts and got to work...and I finished embroidering them ... View the Post
Vintagely Modern Skirt. Spring Edition
I have been doing some Spring sewing lately, because I have a girlie that is growing like a weed. And first on the list was a new Vintagely Modern Skirt, this time in Chambray. Man, oh, man am I loving chambray right now. I want to make some shorts, a shirt dress (for me) and some boys' things all out of chambray. Good thing I ordered 5 yards of it last summer and never got to it...because I now want to do everything out of it! The only thing I changed on the skirt tutorial above was to add ... View the Post
