Ok. So here is another ginormous photo with me in it. (I promise this isn't going to be a regular thing.) Here is the story: Awhile ago I was at Wal-Mart and they were unloading some fabric that was all $2 a yard. And I bought some. (A lot actually.) Including a yard of some heavy white stuff that is soft like velvet but with a cool, graphic, crushed pattern in it.Later that night I was looking though some patterns for myself and I found a vintage Butterick pattern. This pattern to be ... View the Post
A Pink Swing Dress
(Sorry for the pictures being so light on this dress....we were working on a time crunch and full sunlight and some seriously, crazy wind. And these were the best we got.) I have a girl who is getting tall and all of the handmade dresses I have made are too short. So, last week I cut out a couple dresses and I sewed this light pink swing dress up yesterday. I used the pattern below but added 1.5 inches to the hem (although I should have done more, but she wasn't home at the time---so I ... View the Post
Spring Look Book: The T-shirt Dress Anyone Can Make (With the How To)
This is the best thing I've made Grace in awhile. Best as in she likes it the most. I think that is because I left the skirt long...like she wanted...so she doesn't have to wear leggings (or any sort of bloomers) underneath. I had planned on cutting the dress several inches shorter when I hemmed it but...she talked me into the longer length...and I have to agree that it is kind of cute like this. So the longer length will stay. Now I said this is the T-shirt dress that anyone can make. And ... View the Post
Spring Lookbook: Easter Dress
The next look for Spring was actually Hannie's Easter dress. Well, and really it was her second Easter dress to boot. The first one had some major issues ;( So, the day before Easter when I finally succumbed to the fact that the first dress wasn't going to work, I got the idea for this dress and made it up in about 3 hours flat. I made the bodice from a sloper and then drafted the collar to fit. The back is a simple, invisible zipper and the whole thing was made from Kona cotton. (I love ... View the Post
Spring Lookbook: Raspberry Sorbet
........She wore a Raspberry beret sorbet.....(now you are going to be singing that song all day too.) Good ole' 80's Prince.Because I always have to include a vintage pattern into my look-books, this dress is the vintage-goodness for this Spring. It is made from this pattern and was not changed a bit (so unlike me at times).I fell in love with the asymmetrical bodice the minute I saw the pattern and have been saving it until it would fit. I can see a lot more of these dresses in the ... View the Post
A Dress and some thoughts.
I promise you that Liz and I will share our sewing adventures from over the weekend soonish (maybe tomorrow if we can get our thoughts together and our laundry done!) but today I wanted to share a dress that I finished in January but never photographed until yesterday.I drafted the shift dress pattern from Hannah's sloper and then added an exaggerated peter-pan collar which I am loving at the moment. After I made this dress I got on an exaggerated-collar kick---so there will be lots more to ... View the Post
