Here's the story. I made this dress awhile ago. It's Burda's Pearl Dress pattern. It was the first Burda pattern I'd ever sewn and I it made for practice before I put together my Shuffle Dress. Fortunately it worked out...and I can wear it. So I will. And because of the crazy print on the fabric it will work to be linked up to the Graphic Print challenge sew along that we have going on over at Project Sewn. So I will do that to. The only problem is this: this: and of course, ... View the Post
Everyday I’m Shufflin: My first Burda Dress and the Shuffle Fabric Bundle Winner
Until this pattern I've never sewn anything for myself that wasn't from a vintage pattern or self drafted.... ...and I wasn't sure how it would go. For the Fabric Fest fashion show I really wanted to make one of my dresses from Riley Blake's Shuffle fabric. (It's one of my very favorite fabrics right now.) So I needed to find a dress that would showcase the fabric with a simple design. Then one night I was browsing through Burda's dress patterns and I came across this: Burda Pearl Dress ... Fabric Fest Happenings (and a little something for you)….
A few weeks ago, liZ and I had the opportunity to attend Fabric Fest, a sewing conference that was put on by Riley Blake Designs in Las Vegas. It was a wonderful mid-week conference of sewing, food, and new friends and we really had the best time. We met people from all over the world (hello new Aussie friends!) and we laughed more than we have laughed in a long time. As part of Fabric Fest we taught a pattern-drafting class for drafting a children's bodice and then did a panel discussion ... View the Post
The Bateau Dress
My fall calendar is looking like chicken scratch with all the events on it right now and it's not even September yet! And I had all these high hopes of sewing a back-to-school look book---but unfortunately that is just not happening. So, I am moving the look book to a winter collection but decided that to make a few things for a new school year. Hannie requested neon, which my 80's heart was loving too. So together we decided on a couple of things to add to her back to school wardrobe and ... View the Post
The Vintage Sundress Pattern
Today we are over at We All Sew sharing our Vintage Sundress Pattern that I have been working on behind the scenes for awhile now, and I am very excited to be sharing it with all of you today. I feel like this dress is kind of a momentous occasion around here (even though it's really not--I am totally being dramatic) but is the first time that I patterned-drafted completely from scratch for more than one size. I think I tested it about 8 or 10 times and although I am still nervous ... View the Post
A Summer Dress
How is summer break going for you? The first week at our house was filled with sickies but I have two fingers crossed that we are out of the worst of it and on to summer break! (And guess who was the lucky member of the family to get it twice.....um...yeah....me.) I actually made this dress a couple of weeks ago but am finally now posting about it. It is a simple vintage-esque dress with a full gathered skirt and cap sleeves. I pulled the pattern of a body draft I had done a month or ... View the Post
