It is still hot as blazes here....but we needed a new and quick back to school dress. So a 30 minute peasant dress and some Old Navy leggings did the job perfectly. I cut the dress a bit longer, shirred 4 or 5 rows to make it drop-waisted and added a ribbon on top and we were done!P.S. Liz and I are still recovering from our craft market-experience which went so well. We promise to tell you all about it soon.A huge thank you to all of you who came and introduced yourselves..... we get a ... View the Post
A Summer Sundress.
In case you missed this a while ago during Melly Sews'30 days of Sundresses earlier in the summer......here is it's encore presentation. When Melissa asked for a sundress for summer, it was kind of a tough one for me because I wanted to make something "extraordinarily out-of-the-box creative." But no inspiration was coming. (Don't you hate it when that happens? Argh.)Until one day I saw my {almost} seven-year old drawing flowers and laughed to myself. Number one, because they are the same ... View the Post
A Hint of Lime Dress
This is one of the project that I finished this summer...that luckily has been worn a ton! It was a quick, easy sew and I love the color of the kiwi green linen with the vintage fabric on the pockets.I didn't take any pictures as I was making it (to tell the truth I was totally winging it), but I basically used a raglan-sleeve dress pattern (self-drafted) with a gathered neck and arms and bias tape to hold the gathers in place.I am working on a similar dress for fall with three-quarter sleeves, ... I’ll Blame it All on He-Man
Over the weekend I realized that I have never shared this dress.I made it as one of my final projects in the pattern drafting class that Elizabeth and I took winter semester.Back when I started sewing I was learning to make various quilt squares. (Which I enjoyed.) But it wasn't until I started sewing for Grace that I fell in love.I have so much fun sewing for and dressing up my Grace.(Sometimes I wonder if I'm making up for all that time during my childhood that I played He-Man and G.I. Joe ... View the Post
Another caftan.
So I made another caftan dress. This time in cotton, with neckhole bias facings, finished sleeves, a cute drawstring detail....but Houston, there's a problem. She HATES it. Yep. Totally HATES.I thought it would be so cool and comfortable for summer. Loose, flowy, and cool.....but nope. She has clearly stated that she is NEVER wearing it again. She only likes the knit one. {Which she has worn almost every other day.....she says it's better than a nightgown.}Fine. I guess I can't win in ... View the Post
A Color-blocked Birthday Dress.
We have a girlie around these parts that is having a birthday this week. As well as a tea party with some very important people to celebrate the special occasion. So, of course a new dress was in order. I basically used my old stand-by vintage dress shape (here is the original tutorial) but didn't put on the sleeves or a collar. Just a simple, classic dress kicked up a notch with a bit of colorblocking. The only other difference to the original tutorial was adding an invisible zipper in ... View the Post
