(You don't mind a picture of kid-decorated cookies do you? Although I think they did a better job that I can...) My art of homemaking this last month has been the search for the ultimate sugar cookie. It all started when I made a batch of sugar cookies before Christmas and they just weren't very good. They were so dry and just tasteless. From there I decided that I wanted to find a great (not just good) sugar cookie recipe in time for Valentine's Day. It took three tries (and a lot of ... Watermelon Sorbet
I have to tell you that this is one of my absolute favorite treats in the afternoon. When it is hot and I give the kids a popsicle, this is my go-to snack for myself.....and it is so worth it. No added sugar (I sometimes do if the watermelon isn't super sweet), but it's really just frozen watermelon, a bit of water and lime juice, blended to such a smooth and delicious taste. I learned to make watermelon icecream when I was living in the Algarve in Southern Portugal. We had it for dinner one ... View the Post
A May Day Flower Headband Tutorial.
(Or even a flower girl headband -- wouldn't they be absolutely darling!) Happy May Day! I know the origin of the holiday has changed a number of times, but I love the idea of celebrating Spring. I remember in Elementary school learning Maypole dances and even then I just loved the idea of girls in Spring dresses dancing, throwing flowers and all-around celebrating Spring (I think it was all the Anne of Green Gables I read as a girl.) So, we had to celebrate May Day in style. With two little ... View the Post
Winter Roses Hairclips
"God gave us our memories so that we might have roses in December." ---James Matthew Barrie Time goes by too quickly. In my mind I just had Ruth..but "just had" just happens to be several months ago now. Every time I turn around I notice how fast my kids are growing up and at least ten times a day I wish I could freeze time. Days of chubby cheeks and tea parties won't last forever but how glad I am to have them...a whole garden for my December. A few Saturdays ago my mom and I were at Hobby ... View the Post
A Thanksgiving Garland
This is a bit emabarrasing to admit....but I haven't yet decorated my house for Thanksgiving. Am I the only one? I hope that there is at least one other person out there who hasn't. I hardly decorated for Halloween too because we have a one-year old around here who is cute as a button....but is also a wild climbing man. If he sees something up high that he desperately wants, there is no telling what he will do to get it. So, decorating this Fall has been sparse and simple. But at this ... View the Post
A Clown Treat
Did you ever have these clown cones at Baskin Robbins when you were little? They were definately a special treat in our family...but I loved when we got them. So, for the August birthday celebration, I decided that is was time to add some icecream cone clowns to our family celebration. If you want to make some, here's how I did mine. Using your icecream scoop, drop rounded icecream scoops into cupcake liners and stick a cone on top. Refreeze. Then frost with star tip. I used this ... View the Post
