I have had a few baby gifts to make recently. For two new little girls, cute Black Apple Dolls. I decided to make them bigger, so I enlarged the original pattern by 200% and I think they are a cute size. I used all scraps for this project-extra drop-cloths for the faces and arms, leftover felt for the hair and leftover Starboard skirt fabric for the bodies. I found some cute tags online (I didn't save the source, anyone recognize them?) and the gifts are done. A cute, but ... View the Post
$5 Friday–Another T-shirt skirt
I have mentioned this before, but I have a six-and a half year old who is getting into sewing---which completely warms my heart. She and I sewed up this little t-shirt skirt from 2 dollar store tees a week or so ago. She did the casing, threaded the elastic through it, sewed it together and closed the casing--all.by.herself. And I got the lovely assistant job of trying to make her vision come to life with the small rows of ruffles on the "h" (which was quite the task). Even the styling is ... View the Post
Vintage Aprons for $5 Friday
Yesterday I was at my mom's house when she showed me a "new" pattern and the apron she made using it...I totally loved it. So she let me go through her fabric stash and make an apron of my own for Gracie. I picked out a piece of Riley Blake's Bloom and Grow line and got to work (while making my mom listen to me tell her all about one of mine and Elizabeth's recent adventures). I was literally done with the entire project (but not my story) within 30 minutes. It was awesome. Unfortunately, I ... View the Post
$5 Friday—Happy Christma-Easter-Ween!
Oh my. What can you say about a project like this??? And how did my daughter (who usually looks more like this) end up looking like a bank robbing Easter bunny? Here's what happened. Yesterday Grace informed me that she wants to wear a bunny suit on Easter instead of her Easter Dress. So at the end of a long afternoon of me working on my taxes I sat down with her to make said bunny suit. We started (and ended) with the hat. I pulled out an old grey stocking cap, a broken bunny ear ... View the Post
Slashed 80’s Vest
Just when you thought I had finally exhausted my list of crazy projects to make from Dollar Store T-shirts (You know like the Hostess Cupcake Skirts...Cardigan Vests...Maternity Skirts...Love Skirts...and the list goes on ) I make another one...and it may be the craziest one yet. Here's the story---I was going through Grace's drawers and reorganizing her clothes when I came across THIS VEST that I made for her. She hadn't worn it in awhile and I wondered what I could do to make it new ... View the Post
Kids’ Crafting- Spring Pom Pom Garland
This project is in no way new or innovative....but made a great afternoon of fun (and lots of yarn confetti on the floor!).The kids and I made a pom pom garland from leftover cotton yarn to add to our family room window and give a little color for Spring. They wound the yarn (50 times around the cardboard that bias tape comes on--the short side), I tied the middles, and then they gave them all haircuts--which made for some very innovative-looking poms. But it was just the spot of color we ...
