I am soon to be getting an excellent sister-in-law and I was invited to a shower for her a few nights ago. Now, while she is admittedly worth far more than $5, portions of her gift from me were only $5. (Don't worry, Stacy already knows we're poor and that I make almost all the gifts I give.)The first thing I bought Stacy was a vintage cook book for $2 at a thrift store (can't remember which one---it was before they even got engaged). I really am into old books with any housekeeping or cooking ... View the Post
$5 Friday…My Most Useful Crafting Device
This Friday I don't have something for you to make (sorry). What I have is the best crafting item I've invested in and yes, it cost less than $5.It's my scrap bin. I've had people ask me if I really #1. Have a scrap bin and #2. If the fabric I say I used from my scrap bin really came from my scrap bin. The answer to both of these questions is yes.I used to save scraps in a zip-lock bag, then a drawer, then a basket, and I've now moved to a clear plastic storage bin and it's perfect. I keep it ... $5 Friday…Dish Towel Apron
Here's a photo of one of my current favorite aprons....Take a dish towel (I bought mine at the Dollar Store of course.) and lay it vertically. Attach extra long apron strings (mine were 2 and a half inches wide and the entire width of the fabric). Finish off with some flowers made from scraps(same kind I used on my broach a couple of posts back). *I made the strings extra long so I could criss-cross them in the back and bring them around front to tie. It isn't necessary but I like it like ... View the Post
A baby’s room…and some $5 projects
I have been putting together a baby's room and I thought that I would share some of my progress with you all. I am doing the room in turquoise and red (a new color obsession of mine lately) and since I was making the quilt and sheets (I'll show you those soon) I searched and searched for a turquoise bed skirt for the crib. No such luck. So, I got creative with my staple gun. I decided that I wanted a very simple flat skirt anyway, so I literally took out the wood piece, folded the corners to ... View the Post
$5 Monday
I was slowing recovering from a month of weeds and laundry on Friday so I am playing catch-up. I have a few yard sale purchases that I carted all the way back (2500 miles to be exact), that at the time I wasn't sure why, but now am very glad for the trouble. This is my $2 dollar chair. And here she is after a can of primer (I had the primer) and a $2.97 can of Krylon cherry red spray paint.Lovely. ... View the Post
$5 Friday…Flower Pins
Hey!So I forgot it is $5 Friday today. It's a holiday here in Utah and we're on our way out the door---the boys to go fishing and me to go fabric shopping. But since we were gone last week.....Here's a quick $5 idea. I put it together just a few minutes ago. When I need a quick something to put on a plain T-shirt these pins are easy to whip up.Supplies:1. Scrap Fabric (For mine I used 3 different sizes of scrap.)2. A Pin BackInstructions:1.
