So, I'm an idiot and forgot to take a picture of one of these calendars when it was completed but here are some works in progress. We made these in my preschool class this morning. They are Christmas gifts for parents (but I'm going to have my kids make them for their grandparents). They are made from a half sheet of poster board, a Dollar store 2011 planner hot glued to the bottom corner and a bit of art work hot glued to the other corner. Then for my preschool kids I attached a quote and some ... View the Post
$5 Friday…a thrift store edition
I had to run into DI the other night to get a trophy for my husband's work. He got the exciting job of staying with three kids in the car, that lucky duck. And because I was passing the aisle, I just had to check the pattern section....I just had to. (As he immediately says, "what in the world took you so long?" when I get back in the car.) Umm. Patterns? And this is what I found. 4 1960's children's patterns. (My older 2 kids are obsessed with the Brady Bunch right now which we watch during ... View the Post
$5 Friday…An Updated Broach for FREE!!!
Last week I went out shopping at a local thrift store and found some AWESOME deals. This is not one of them. But it was worn with a super cool $4 dress that I bought there.Awhile ago I went through a broach stage. A big one. Oh, I still love them but I needed to spice this one up a little to go with the dress so it was into the scrap bin I went.1 scrap piece of mustard silk sewn into a shabby flower and then sandwiched between my cardigan and broach is just what I needed to finish off my outfit.A ... $5 Friday…Autumn Halo’s
This project was a happy accident discovered by my preschool class. Here's how it happened:I bought paper plates and several packages of "silk" fall leaves from the Dollar Store.I then cut out the center of the paper plates so we could make fall wreaths.Art time began in class...the plate rims were covered in glue and the leaves were flying...then at the finish several of the students hung their wreaths on their heads like a hat. It started a revolution and our fall wreaths suddenly became ... View the Post
$5 Friday…I can’t take the credit…
Simon made this bug mask at a recent birthday party. He loves it. This is him wearing it while watching Superman. The birthday party he attended was hosted by a super cute, super crafty mom who gave the kids these plastic masks and a pile of supplies and let them get busy. Obviously it was a huge success. (A far greater success than Simon's party a week earlier where my husband dressed up like an alien and scared the crap out of all his little guests....)Anyways...the love of the bug mask has ... $5 Friday…Yard Ghosts
This week for $5 Friday I made our annual yard ghosts for Halloween. Here's how:#1. Get a wire hanger and stretch it out. (Your hook should still be in tact at the top but now the body of the hanger is tall and skinny with a point at the end to stick into the ground.)#2. Wrap some used grocery bags around the hook of the hanger. (This will make the head.)#3. Cover the head and body with a white garbage sack. #4. Tie a ribbon around the neck.#5. Stick in the ground.*NoTe: If you are opposed to ... View the Post
