Hello Friends! Soooo...we have had a quite a few emails asking about Skirting the Issue this year so we are taking a minute to answer some of those questions. WHAT ARE THE ITEMS THAT ARE BEING MADE TO DONATE THIS YEAR? This year we are focusing on quilts...baby sized and up. However, we are also doing girls and womens skirts as well as pillowcases. WHERE CAN I DONATE MY ITEMS? As always our hope would be that you find a local charity that could use your handmade items....a ... View the Post
Skirting the Issue 2019: Where to Donate
Like we said at the beginning of the month our approach to Skirting the Issue is a little different than in years past. As the time drew near I kept reflecting on different events that happened during the year. I told you about the accident I was involved in but there were loads of other events that led up to this shift. One of those was the organization of a city Quilt Show that I was in charge of. Here's what happened: During the holidays last year I became obsessed with the idea ... View the Post
Christmas in July 2019 Week #2: The Nightmare Before Christmas Gift Eating Snake
Today I am so excited to share how I made this giant Nightmare Before Christmas Gift Eating Snake! I love this snake...but I can't take all the credit for making it. Infact, the idea to even make him came from my 14 year old son. I was saying how it's lame that we don't even have a tree skirt...just a blanket that we use to wrap around the tree stand. And then he said the blanket was better than a skirt...but it would be way cooler if we had the snake from The Nightmare ... View the Post

Skirting the Issue is an annual event that is near and dear to our hearts. It started from a desire to harness the goodness of the sewing community and help those that we knew needed some love....namely girls in foster care. (You can read more about our why's and the stories behind Skirting the Issue HERE and HERE.) Over the ... View the Post
Starting at Square One Quilt Pattern (sewn up in Shine Bright)
I love this quilt pattern. It is our Starting at Square One Quilt Pattern and a few months back I used it to make this toddler quilt using our Shine Bright fabric. The quilt itself finishes up at 50" by 50" which is the size that I love for lap quilts but is also the perfect size for my 7 year old to use for, what we call them at our house, a "couch quilt". However, this particular quilt was made for a brand new arrival and should make a great floor quilt for the sweet ... View the Post
