Dutch Tulips Quilt Pattern
I am so excited to finally share this pattern with all of you today!!!
It took more than a year, two 8 hour flights, and a trip across an ocean to get it here but without further ado here is our newest PDF Quilt Pattern…..just in time for spring….Dutch Tulips!
Here is the story….
Just over a year ago one of my best friends (my brother) moved from a home less than a mile away from mine to start a new adventure in Amsterdam. As soon as I knew he was moving I started making plans for a visit….and then plans for quilts to make and bring on this visit.
In April I arrived in Amsterdam with my son and an entire suitcase full of quilts I made for this trip!
And because my brother is a good sport he was prepared for me and all my location themed quilts.
After spending some time wandering around the city we took a day trip over to the Keukenhof Garden…which was far more beautiful than I had imagined it would be.
Keukenhof Garden is a manicured garden full of acres and acres tulips, water features, windmills, and walking trails surrounded by tulip farms as far as the eye can see. I had been reading up on it before we came…and I brought my backpack…filled with a quilt made just for the gardens!
I was so excited to unfold it and take pictures of it in such a magical place!!!
At home I spent time trying to decide what colors to use…pink? Violet? Lavender?
Finally I went with red and yellow….and as we walked through the gate we were greeted by piles of the most amazing read and yellow tulips. It felt like it was meant to be.
I had no regrets.
The star of this quilt pattern is the tulip…which for the record looks adorable in a variety of different colors…even if the red and yellow combo is my favorite.
I really like the simplicity of this pattern. Both in it’s clean design and in the easy manner in which it comes together. Strips, squares, and half square triangles….it is essentially constructed by making 4 oversized quilt blocks, each consisting of 4 tulips set on angles around a small center square.
I was completely inspired by the photographs I saw online when designing this pattern and so it was such a fun experience to take the quilt to the location
Not only did I love Keukenhof Garden…the drizzle of rain…the endless beds of tulips, crocus, and daffodils….the vibrant colors….wandering along the trails…and the music…but I loved the people that we met as we were taking photos of this quilt.
I met the nicest quilters from France, Portugal, Sweden and the United States! It was so fun to talk about quilting with wonderful women from half a world away from my home.
It confirmed to me again that quilters are indeed the nicest, most wonderful, people on the planet.
If you want to sew up this pattern you can find the downloadable PDF HERE in our shop.
And watch for some more new patterns coming soon…most of them also made the trip with me across the ocean…and as I said before I have zero regrets. (Unless, that is, I didn’t have time to make and bring a few more with me!)
Talk to you soon!
