July Reading Challenge: Stories to Stitch By
This month our challenge is: Published before 2000…and is focused on choosing on a book that was written and published before the year 2000.
This challenge gives us soooo many good reading options!
A few of my favorite reads from before 2000 are:
Agatha Christie books are always on my summer reading lists….fun, easy reads. (In fact, I just finished Death on the Nile.)
Charlotte’s Web is on of my top 10 favorite books of all time. Sweet. Simple. Beautiful.
Written in short story/essay form this book is delightful with good messages.
A book about a boys rowing sounds…well…lame…but this book is inspiring and a must read. I loved this book! Just read it.
Sweet and sad. Lovely and haunting. I love the words and the simple illustrations.
This is a folktale about two old women who are abandoned one harsh winter….
I love books where the characters are imperfect, relatable, and lovable…and this book is full of them. I’ve read it to school classes and with book clubs. It is a favorite.

And a few reads, that I HAVEN’T read, that are on my list for this month include:
Sooooo…now that we have some reading choices let’s check out a couple of quilt patterns that go with our pre 2000 theme:
The first one I have is our Technical Difficulties PDF Quilt Pattern:
This quilt was obviously inspired by the technical difficulty bars that would show up on my TV screen as I was growing up. The quilt is fun to make, have, and use.
And the second quilt pattern for the month is:
Our Grandfather’s Lap Quilt PDF Pattern
I love this pattern.
Not just because it works well with so many different kinds of fabrics..but also because it works up to such a great lap quilt for grandparents.
You can find the PDF pattern HERE…but I also wrote a post about how and why to incorporate different textures into these lap quilts HERE.
Alright…so that is that!
July is all about going back in time before the year 2000!
Happy reading and quilting!
