Grandfather’s Lap Quilt…Grandma Style
Today I’m excited to share a newly finished version of our Grandfather’s Lap Quilt Pattern.
I love the the original version with the plaids and the wool and the flannel….but decided I wanted to make one, using the same pattern, but this time….it’s the Grandfather’s Lap Quilt…Grandma style!
So in this quilt I included prints and patterns that I know that my grandma loves…stripes, polka dots, florals, and paisleys! Lots of paisleys!!!!
And because it’s a lap quilt and because I have made quite a few of these for a generation that I love I have changed a few things.
Sitting on a lap these quilts get petted and smoothed by dear, sweet, weathered hands…and so I add in fabric that is soft, soothing, and textured.
This particular version includes quilting cotton, of course, but also fabrics like velvet and chenille.
And I machine bound the entire quilt with a pastel paisley pattern full of the colors included in the quilt.
I love how this pattern turns out…the scrappy feel and the smaller size make for a perfect lap quilt.
You can find the PDF Pattern for our Grandfather’s Lap Quilt HERE and whip up one of your own for a loved one.
How cool is to make something that literally wraps the people we care for in out love?
Pretty stinking cool.
Happy Quilting!

What a thoughtful idea to add different textured fabrics for a grandma’s lap quilt! I also especially like the quilting design, is that a panto with a name or free-motion quilted? Thanks for sharing!!
