Halloween Writing Prompts
My daughters have recently really gotten into writing and keep a writing journal where they have a new story prompt every day.
But, for October we thought it would be fun to do something a little different. So when we found these Halloween journals at the Dollar Store we had to get them and fill them up with “spooky” writing prompts.
Here is a list of the prompts that we came up with. There are are 31…one for every day in the month!
#1. It was a dark and stormy night…
#2. There was a strange feeling in the air that morning…
#3. And suddenly the wind changed…
#4. The wind blew and the tree scratched across the window…
#5. And standing there in the glare of the headlights…
#6. By the light of the full moon he could see…
#7. And that is when she saw it in the rear view mirror…
#8. From behind the door he could hear footsteps…
#9. The doll was there standing in the hall…
#10. The air was still and yet one solitary swing moved back and forth…
#11. Lightning flashed and the rain beat against the window…
#12. Who could be knocking at this late hour?
#13. Just then the clock struck midnight…
#14. A sudden gust of wind swiftly blew out the candle…
#15. The flashlight flickered and then went out…
#16. She could have sworn that the portrait’s eyes followed her as she walked across the room…
#17. The hair stood up on the back of his neck when he saw…
#18. A blood curdling scream sent shivers down my spine…
#19. Off in the distance a wolf howled…
#20 As the clouds parted the light of the moon finally made it visible…
#21. Down the empty hall the floorboards began to creak…
#22. The fog rolled in thick and mysterious…
#23. The house stood there alone on the hill…
#24. I watched as the shadow crept closer…
#25. The black cat lept from her perch, arched her back and hissed…
#26. A strange force seemed to be pulling her onto the path towards the graveyard…
#27. No one knew the mysterious stranger at the costume party…
#28. A low moan began in the distance and slowly grew louder and louder…
#29. It started like any other Halloween with the trick or treating but then…
#30. It was late at night and the road was deserted…
#31. Everyone in the house was fast asleep when…
