In our house we call these “Grandma Lova Brownies.” This fudge brownie recipe is named after my maternal grandma who I will introduce you to in the next podcast 😉 but they are the best fudge brownies out there! And I am not kidding. I have tried so many recipes, but I always came back to Grandma Lova’s recipe….and now I don’t even try any more…they are the REAL DEAL.
I even introduced my host family when I was a foreign exchange student in France in college and I think we made them three nights in a row one week. When I left I gave them the recipe (the best I could with the metric system) and they became a staple in their home too.
They are fudgy and thick and my mouth is watering just thinking about them. I love these brownies so so much that I now even have the recipe memorized so I can make them at the drop of a hat. They are THAT GOOD!
Grandma Lova’s Fudge Brownie Recipe
2 sticks of butter
8 heaping tablespoons of Hershey’s cocoa
2 cups of sugar
4 eggs
1 1/2 t. vanilla
2 cups of all-purpose flour
Put the 2 sticks of butter into a saucepan and melt. Then add the 8 tablespoons of cocoa and mix until smooth. Take off the heat. In a separate bowl, mix the 2 cups of sugar with the 4 eggs and vanilla until all of those ingredients are blended together. Carefully put in about 1/4 cup of chocolate mixture into the egg mixture (be careful to stir quickly and not curdle the eggs) and then add the rest of the chocolate mixture to that bowl. Mix until smooth and a milk chocolate color. Then add the 2 cups of all-purpose flour and mix thoroughly with a wooden spoon (my tip–do not use beaters) until batter is ready. Pour into a greased and floured 9 x 13″ pan and bake for 25-30 minutes at 350 degrees. *Do not overbake–toothpick should come out with a few crumbs when done.
