I don’t think I will ever get tired of making Saturday Afternoon Quilts.
It really is a favorite quilt pattern…not just because of how quickly it comes together but because it is so great to showcase fun prints like these designed by See Kate Sew for Riley Blake Designs.
This line of fabric is called Kiss Me Kate and my 10 year old daughter is in love with it….especially the lips and the lipstick prints.
But my favorites are the eyelashes and the stripes.
In the past every single time I have sew up the Saturday Afternoon Quilt Pattern I have used solid white as the background but this time I decided to change things up and use the large “hashtag” print from Riley Blake Designs…and I love how it turned out.
So much in fact that I decided to try out something I have been thinking about for awhile now…a “disappearing” binding.
What I mean by a disappearing binding is that I used the same fabric to bind the quilt as the background fabric it would be bordering.
But only on a portion of the quilt…to keep it edgy (no pun intended).
And I am super happy with the results! That hashtag print was perfect to create what I had envisioned as a disappearing binding…and my daughter thinks it is the “coolest” quilt I have ever made.
