I just finished another version of our Dorm Room Quilt yesterday for my oldest daughters bedroom. We are moving next week and she wants to decorate her room using blues and corals so this quilt for her bedroom should be just what she needs.
We originally designed this quilt pattern to be used for moms and grandma’s to make for their young adults heading off to college or to their first apartments.
When I left for college my grandparents gave me a comforter that I used all of my college years and still have today. (One side was pink…for when I was happy…the other side was blue…for when it was sad…but it was all warm…to remember that,no matter what, I was loved.)
My grandpa passed away over a year ago and I miss him. A lot. Among other things (like hamburgers, photography, and his grand kids) my grandfather was a HUGE railroad enthusiast so it only made sense when I went to take these pictures that I photographed them in front of the Railroad Museum.
You know….quilts are like magic…I was given that comforter more than 20 years ago…but when I see it now I still feel as much (if not more) love as I did on the day it was given. Sure, the colors have faded but the feelings haven’t.
Grace is still in elementary school…and although I can’t bear the thought of her one day leaving.. I hope that when that day comes this comforter will fill my Grace with the same love and memories as my old tattered comforter fills me with.
