I recently came across the softest fleece blankets on Amazon (I am not kidding when I say the are soft!!!) HERE is the link (*affiliate link*) to see the exact ones I got and I love that they are less than $20 each. I ordered some for our family room in the basement where we watch movies, but then I thought they needed a little something so I have been slowly adding some cute details to each blanket. It’s been fun being able to do a few simple embellishments to personalize everyone’s blanket to use while cuddling in the basement watching movies (and then there’s no fighting over whose blanket it is ;))
Here’s how to embellish a fleece throw:
I used this fabric marking pen (*affiliate link*), some pearlized cotton thread, and my 5″ quilting square to mark the blanket every 5″ where I wanted to tie it.
Then using THIS TECHNIQUE I tied the black pearlized cotton thread every 5″ to give the blanket the look that it was a tied quilt.
It only took me one night of tv watching to tie all the marks I had made so consider it a fast project too. After I tied all the 5″ marks, I went back and made 4 short tassels for each of the four corners of the blanket. HERE is a good tutorial if you need to see how tassels are made.
I handstitched the tassels to each of the four corners, but if you are worried about little ones putting these in their mouths you could easily omit them And you are done!
I have a couple of other ways to embellish these blanket that I will show you soon!
