The moment your baby girl is slipped into your arms a special kind of magic occurs. Suddenly you can see within that small bundle endless potential…and you know that this tiny soul you are blessed to raise will have the power to change the world.
It’s a feeling that that doesn’t diminish over the years.
We know. We both are raising girls.
Within them we see their strength, their light, and their goodness….to us, they sparkle. And in a world that seems to becoming increasingly dark we want to encourage them to continue to shine brightly not only for themselves, but to help others as well. And this idea was the inspiration behind our newest line of fabric “Shine Bright”.
“Shine Bright” includes a main print with reminders for our girls such as “never dull your sparkle”, “always leave behind a little glitter” and most importantly that they are “loved”.
It also includes 6 supporting prints:
* “Smarter Than You Think” a fun word search circle print
* “Made to Sparkle” a geometric diamond print
* “Brilliant” a non-directional light bulb print
* “Cross My Heart” a sweet lattice print
* “Glitter” a great blender print
And
*You Are” a wordsearch print that highlights the words “you are” in gold while more than 40 other words are hidden and waiting to be discovered…words that describe how we feel about our daughters…words like “outstanding”, “smart”, “talented”, etc.
All the prints were designed and named with our sweet girls in mind.
However, when the bolts of fabric arrived and we saw them in person we realized that this idea…and these prints…were about more than our feelings for our daughters (however powerful and real those feelings are).
These prints reflect how we feel about all the women who have freely shared their lights with us…so many strong, resilient, amazing women have helped light our paths. Their sparkle has helped guide the way. Their brilliance has made the world a better place for all of us…and we love them for it.
So while “Shine Bright” was designed with the hopes for our daughters in mind it is dedicated to all the women out there who act as beacons of light.
It is our hope that many projects will be made with this fabric by and given to women who shine (daughters and granddaughters, aunts and cousins, mothers and friends) in a spirit of love and gratitude for one another.
Here’s to strong women.
May we know them.
May we be them.
May we raise them.
As part of our Shine Bright Holiday tour we are giving away a Fat Quarter Bundle of “Shine Bright”.
To enter to win simply leave us a comment telling us about a woman that you thinks shines brightly. That’s it. Super easy! ***SORRY THE GIVEAWAY IS NOW CLOSED***
And then stay tuned…all week long we have amazing women sharing projects that they have created for other amazing women….I can’t wait to get this fabric tour started! (I really can’t!)

To me Maya Angelou was a bright shining light. She was a poet, a writer, a story teller, a survivor, a woman full of love, humor, wisdom, grace, poise and knowledge. She shared this with others. I attended a presentation of hers and I still remember her grace and sparkle as she talked with all at the reception. I listen to and read her books. Even her voice was soothing. She will be missed.

Shine bright, Katie. My sister has an amazing capacity to give to others and make them feel special. Not only is she a contributing member of her community through community meals for the homeless, parish nursing, leading charity quilt-making for community members suffering health crises, death, or losses of some kind, she also provides free handmade quilts to fundraisers and as Christmas gifts for local care facilities. How in the world does she do that while working full time? These are just a few examples of her contributions to her community. This fabric shines as brightly as her spirit of generosity!

My daughter! She just turned 8 and while she is “fierce” and a “force” at home sometimes she is an amazing student. She always seeks out the student with the most difficulty (behavioral and academic) and then steadfastly partners with them on almost every occasion in the classroom. She is a very bright and gifted student and I love that she shares her love of learning with others. This year her teacher has reported she partners with one classmate who often doesn’t even want a partner, but she is patient and kind with him. I love that this is the person I’m sending out into the world and I hope she never loses this beautiful side of her.

Wow! Firstly, I think of my mom. Who passed on December 26th last year. Single mom to 5 kids for a lot of years. She lost her first husband when she was pregnant and had 3 small boys. Then, when I was 10, she divorced my father, and again was on her own. About 5 years ago, and my husband’s suggestion, we moved across the country to be closer to her, and help her in her failing health. A few months later, my husband was diagnosed with leukemia, and she became my greatest advisor, when he passed 6 months later. She was a nurse and she nurtured people at work AND everywhere. When my grandmother could not be alone, and needed shots each day, my mom took over the majority of her care for several years. When each of us had small children she assisted with taking care of our precious children, to help us. To the end, she loved so much! I miss her. ❤

The woman who shines bright is my sweet mother. She is needing a lot of care right now, and my wonderful father is right by her side. We four children are doing our best to meet their needs. They met in the 7th grade and were high school sweethearts. Dad was Student body President, and Mom was Student body Vice President when they were seniors at Murray High. They have lived all their lives in Murray, Utah, and we grew up in the home they built next to our grandparents, mom’s parents. Dad will turn 90 in January 2018, and Mom will be 90 in February!!! In July they will celebrate 70 years of marriage!!! That itself is a feat, especially nowadays!!! Sadly, Mom has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. It is an awful thing, to see her being robbed of her memory and mind. But she is doing REMARKABLY well, even though the diagnosis label is “severe.” She still takes care of herself, her home, and her yard, as immaculately as she always did. She is amazing. She was a professional tap dancer and ballerina and still dances!!! She remembers all those dance steps!!! And, she deserves the love and respect she has from her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She herself took care of her mother who also had Alzheimer’s for 20 years!! She shines so bright and is so loved and so noble. She is my hero, my mentor, my shining star example in my life. I love her dearly.
Ruth McCall says

There are five sisters in my family (plus three brothers), and the oldest of us all is Trina., who has been blessed with five girls of her own. She is talented, incredibly hard-working, intelligent, and an amazing example to her young daughters. Even though we live 2500 miles apart, we have become sewing buddies, sharing ideas and projects with each other, as we each learn to sew clothing for our daughters (I have two). I couldn’t ask for a better big sister to look up to.

So many come to mind — my BFF who is a breast cancer survivor, another special friend raising money for Leukemia in honor of her daughter, my dear friend raising her young daughter, and, always, my mom.

My mother passed away this past August, but she was the epitome of shining bright. She was a dedicated churchgoer, a friend to all who met her, she never met a stranger, and the best mom I could have ever asked for. She may have left this world, but the memory of her shines brightly in all who knew her.

I am thankful for my mom. She is resilient, graceful, and full of hope and faith, and I hope to impact others in the same manner some day.

I know a great lady (my friend’s mother) who has taught piano lessons and music classes for many years. She teaches preschool music classes in nursing homes to bless both the residents and the children. She raised seven wonderful children of her own She has a lot of wisdom and I look up to her as I try to raise my own six children well.
I love this fabric! I am giving my 8-year-old daughter sewing lessons for Christmas this year and she would LOVE to use this fabric for some of her projects!

Hello my name is Marcia and I have two beautiful daughters who I admire for different reasons. My oldest daughter who is 15 is beautiful, strong, organized, mature, courageous and so many other things. My younger daughter is 12 and she is in the midst of finding herself. She has already explored many possibilities athletically such as softball, cheerleading, gymnastics, and now her future is leaning towards acting! I am so proud of how smart and beautiful and proud and confident she. I am so amazed that every day brings a bright new light upon them. I would love to use this fabric to make new bedding, sheets, bed skirts , pillow cases, throw pillows and maybe even use it to make some fun DIY projects for their walls. Please put me in the running as I would be very grateful!

Let grandma shines bright. She is the matriarch of our family and is by far the most amazing woman I know. She would always sew my crazy creations that I would come up with. I have just steamed red quilting and naturally she received my first creation, a small lap size quilt which she uses daily.

Right now, I think of a co-worker who just had brain surgery. Usually this time of year, she is volunteering to pass out gift at our local children’s’ hospital where we work. She is understandably scared of the challenges awaiting her as she recovers and undergoes further treatment. The “You Are” fabric would be perfect for a chemo cap. I will have to find some of this for the caps I’s making her.

It would be my Mom. She’s gone now, but she was so deeply loved and such a shining star in our family.
I have 2 daughters and 2 granddaughters, I need some of this fabric to make them something. It’s perfect!
I’ll be on the hunt for it.

Not sure if the giveaway is still open, but in any case I want to say that my daughter Lucy is the brightest light in my life. Looking forward to using this fabric someday.

A friend I had the privilege of working with is the strongest woman I’ve ever met. She smiles and laughs easily, is creative and always tries to brighten the day with her positive comments. She has survived breast cancer, divorce and adversity and still finds the humor and positives in life. She is strong in her faith, a problem solver, mom, friend, counselor and much more!

My grandmother was my shining star. She was born in 1887, lived on a farm, and could truly “do it all”. She took care of farm animals, cooked 3 meals a day, gardened and canned vegetables for the winter, made our clothes and quilts , and never complained. I wish I could be more like her.

I love this collection!! The challenge is thinking on just one person who I’d like to make a quilt for using the collection. First, would be my mom who will be 95 on Feb. 1. She is strong and caring. Next would be both my daughters who are stay-at-home moms. They sacrifice every day to help their kids become strong and loving. Finally, I would use the collection to make a quilt for a dear friend whose husband has being fighting cancer for 7 years and who works in a very toxic environment. She remains positive despite the challenges (emotional, physical and financial) she faces. Thanks for creating this beautiful collection!
