When Elizabeth and I were designing our “When Skies Are Grey” fabric line the ideas came from the song “You Are My Sunshine”. It was a song that our parents and grandparents sang to us when we were children and that we in turn sing to our children.
You are my sunshine
My only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You’ll never know dear, how much I love you
Please don’t take my sunshine away
I love that song.
And recently it came to mean something else.
I have a friend who is amazing. Both she and her teenage son are currently battling very serious health issues…and yet through it all I watch her and her family helping, supporting, and inspiring others where ever and when ever they can…in the hopsital or in their neighborhood…they can always be counted on to be there to lend a hand. Always.
Like I said she is amazing…truly amazing.
Anytime I see her face pop up on my social media feed I smile…her humor, honesty, and goodness make me happy even when skies are grey. So awhile back I made her a quilt….from “When Skies Are Grey”…to let her know how much I appreciate her being in my world…for her example…and to give her something tanglable to wrap up in that would remind her that she is loved and appreciated for being the sunshine even when her skies are grey.
Over the weekend I thought of another friend who could use a “When Skies Are Grey” quilt…another light shining through the darkness…and so I have another quilt that needs to be sewn. However, I don’t think it will be the last…and I’m not complaining. I love these lights…the world needs them…and if I can help add fuel to their fire I will do it.
I wouldn’t be surprised if you knew a light that could use a little warmth as well. So we’ve added this same quilt as a kit over in the shop. You can get all the details about it HERE.
It’s a quick sew and uses the black, white, and gold sparkle fabrics…and I love how it turns out.
Hooray for the sunshine in our lives.
Happy sewing!
