Today we have some easy Valentine Pillow Tutorials for you…well…maybe more like a how-to’s rather than tutorials…but either way they are easy and I really love them so let’s get started.
To make each of these pillows I followed the instructions from THIS POST about HOW TO MAKE A PILLOW COVER and then just made a few minor changes….
For my heart quilt I started with a 20″ x 20″ square of striped home dec weight fabric along with two 13″ x 20″ pieces of coordinating home dec weight fabric for the back panels.
But then I added a 18″ x 18″ piece of red felt that I used to cut out a GIANT heart:
In retrospect…I should have made the heart just a little bit smaller….but….I’ll just chalk that up to a lesson learned and try to remember it next time I’m thinking “go big or go home” when adding shapes to a pillow. Anyway…
After I cut out the felt heart I used some basting spray to attach it to my pillow front. (However, if you don’t like basting spray you could always pin your heart to your pillow front.)
Then, using matching thread I sewed around the heart attaching it securely to my pillow front.
And the rest was all just following our original PILLOW COVER TUTORIAL.
The entire project from start to finish took less than an hour. As did my second pillow.
This pillow I made from a crazy soft microfiber cloth that I bought at the dollar store…for….$1…
..and some swiss dot quilting cotton that I had in my stash for the back panels.
Now, because I have never sewn with microfiber and it seemed slippy/slidey…and was shedding…and I didn’t want to get frustrated… I zipped around all four sides with my serger.
Which seemed to really help to stablize the fabric as I both pinned the front to the back panels and sewed them together.
Other than that (and changing the size from a 20″ pillow down to a 16″ pillow) I just followed our same PILLOW INSTRUCTIONS exactly. It was a breeze.
And that dollar store cloth…is so dang soft….
I’ve already gone back and bought two more for more pillows….
So there you have it. Two easy to make pillows for Valentine’s Day.
Simple. Fast. Cute.
My favorite kind of projects.
