“They grow so fast.”
My 11 year old is into baking lately. It started when she wanted to make her own “rosette” birthday cake herself and every weekend she’s been asking for some baking lessons. She picks the recipe, I make sure we have the ingredients, and then we bake. It’s turned into a fun mommy and me time…and those moments with 11 year olds are fewer and farther between, so I will take all that I can get! Today for the Art of Homemaking Hannie and I are sharing one of our favorite recipes that we’ve done in the last couple of months. Homemade Cream puffs……yummmmy.
Homemade Cream Puff Recipe
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 4 eggs
- 2 tablespoons cream
In a saucepan, melt the butter, sugar, water and salt and bring to a slow boil. Add the flour and turn off stovetop. Slowly add the flour until the dough forms a ball. Let the mixture cool down for a couple of minutes and then slowly add the eggs and beat well. The dough will be shiny and smooth when ready.
Drop the dough onto a cookie sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the cream on top before baking at 400 degrees for 30 minutes or until golden brown and puffed up. Cool the cream puffs and fill with your favorite toppings—we did vanilla pudding and chocolate but fresh whipped cream and strawberries are delicious too!
And then enjoy!
