Hello Friends.
This post is coming in later than usual…but we wanted to make sure that all the packages were received before we chose winners for prizes and tallied up the final number for this years Skirting the Issue.
Ladies…I know I say this every year…but I mean it, and I feel it stronger and stronger as we continue this “event”….those who sew and quilt are some of the kindest people on the planet.
I never fail to be overwhelmed by your generosity. As I open each of your packages, read each of your emails, see all of your photos, hold each of your notes I can feel of your goodness. Most of us will never meet nor will will meet the girls who will be given these skirts and quilts…but still you sew.
Every year you ladies renew my faith in the kindness of strangers and remind me that the goodness in the world still far outweighs the bad. I freely admit to crying over your work…Kathy Polites…you killed me this year…that box full to the brim…so much beautiful work. And Delsi, that box of darling skirts made by a group of young women, melted my heart and your card is now hanging on my sewing room wall. Joy, Michelle, Amy, Elaine, Leisel…all of you…I could go on about every single one of you and how you have my heart.
How lucky I feel to be able to interact with all of you.
This year will all of your help we were able to collect a total of 759 handmade items (skirts, quilts, etc.) to donate to foster care kids.
Thank you. Elizabeth and I will be loading up and starting the drop off rounds this coming week.
And speaking of this coming week…we would LOVE to get the prizes out to our “winners” this week so let’s get to it!
This year Elizabeth and I entered all of your names into a giant spread sheet…we wrote your name as many times as items that you donated…and each time your name was written it was assigned a number. Then I used a “Random Number Generator” on the internet to choose the prize winners. (Maybe more information than you wanted to know about how the winners are selected but I agonize over how to make the selection process as fair and as unbiased as possible.)
Sooooo that being said the winner of the amazing (and it is amazing) babylock Rachel sewing machine is…
DJEM Ferkenstad!
Congratulations! (And will you please email us…I don’t thing we have your contact information!)
The winner of the $50 gift certificate to Fat Quarter shop is…
Carole Houghton
The winner of the Riley Blake Fabric Bundle is…
Sally King
And the winner of a package from Elizabeth and I is…
Pam from Threading My Way
As always I wish we had something to give each and every one of you.
Please know that we appreciate every single item that you made and that to us you all made a difference.

I am so happy to have had the lucky number for the Riley Blake fabric bundle! But mostly I am so happy I can use my sewing for such a wonderful cause….and that’s because of you two! Thank you so much.
